<div class="text-justify"><h5>27 juillet 2009, mon voyage commence aujourd’hui. Mon compagnon de route, est rentré auprès de sa douce, la mienne ne viendra pas. Aurora est en train de m’attirer tout doucement dans l’aspiration des alizés. Aujourd’hui, est le premier jour de mon voyage où je me retrouve seul, sans lien, sans obligation professionnelle, sans route définie. Ce jour, où je devais quitter ce fameux « quai immobile », est enfin arrivé. Pour autant ce n’est pas parce que je me retrouve seul face à l’inconnu que je m’y sens perdu. Bien au contraire. Cette vie peut commencer, je suis désormais prêt.<Br><Br>Une discussion avec un navigateur français et une autre avec un marin ni-vanuatais, voilà tout ce dont je dispose comme ressources pour le choix de mes futurs sites de plongée. La première m’a donné l’emplacement d’un récif au large d’Emae Island, Cook Reef. La seconde, Lamap, un site malheureusement connu pour une attaque mortelle de requin sur une petite fille dans les années 90, mais qui pour moi, est une aubaine à ne pas rater. Le vent s’est levé, et m’annonce une traversée rapide vers Emae Island. Les voiles se gonflent de cet air promis, Aurora et moi filons comme un jeune couple encore fougueux vers ce qui va être le lieu de plongées exceptionnelles.<Br><Br>Dans le pacifique la mer est une propriété privée. Le droit de visite ou d’exploitation s’obtient auprès du chef coutumier local. De mauvaises expériences Calédoniennes où coutume et escroquerie au touriste étaient quelques fois difficiles à démêler, m’ont rendu un peu frileux pour ce genre de démarche. Mais ici, rien de tel. Aurora est au mouillage, j’accoste le rivage en annexe et fait connaissance avec les personnes présentes autour de moi. Dix minutes plus tard, je suis cordialement invité à plonger sur Cook Reef et à visiter le village, remplissant par la même occasion mon sac de fruits et de légumes. Ce premier contact avec l’incroyable hospitalité des gens du Pacifique devient désormais pour moi, le luxe d’un quotidien dont je n’oublierai jamais la valeur.<Br><Br>Voila enfin le premier de ces moments dont je rêvais tant. Seul, sous l’eau, j’explore un site d’une beauté incroyable, Cook Reef. Tout y est sauvage. Je suis captivé par la densité de corail. Pas moyen de trouver un mètre carré de sable pour y poser une palme. Des thons énormes forment une ronde autour de moi comme le feraient des requins, les gorgones arborent un tissage sans le moindre défaut, les éliselles flânent dans le courant, et les nephtyas régalent l’objectif de mon appareil photo. Il y règne une ambiance de pureté indescriptible. A ce rythme là, le livre de photographies sous-marines que m’a commandé Philippe sera rapidement illustré. A bord, mon ami Paco, originaire de l’île, me montre les autres possibilités de plongées et me raconte le naufrage bien triste d’un voilier de plaisance sur ce même récif. C’est aussi lui qui me donnera quelques feuilles d’un arbre bienvenu afin de guérir cette “gratte” qui me dérange depuis une semaine maintenant. La gratte étant la réaction d’une toxine contenue dans certains poissons que des personnes non averties comme moi font l’erreur de consommer. En deux jours d’infusions régulières, les symptômes ont disparu. Merci à la médecine par les plantes.<Br><Br>A suivre...

</div class="text-justify"><h5>July 27, 2009, my journey begins today. My traveling companion has returned to her sweet, mine will not come. Aurora is slowly pulling me into the aspiration of the trade winds. Today is the first day of my trip where I find myself alone, without a connection, without professional obligations, without a defined route. That day, when I had to leave this famous «motionless dock», has finally arrived. However, it is not because I find myself alone in front of the unknown that I feel lost there. Quite the contrary. This life can start, I am now ready.<Br><Br>A discussion with a French navigator and another with a Ni-Vanuatu sailor, that’s all I have as resources for the choice of my future diving sites. The first one gave me the location of a reef off Emae Island, Cook Reef. The second, Lamap, a site unfortunately known for a deadly shark attack on a little girl in the 90s, but for me, is a godsend not to be missed. The wind has risen, and announces a quick crossing to Emae Island. The sails are swelling with this promised air, Aurora and I are speeding away like a young couple still spirited towards what is going to be the place of exceptional dives. <Br><Br>In the Pacific, the sea is private property. The right of access or exploitation is obtained from the local customary chief. Bad experiences in Caledonia where customs and fraud to the tourist were sometimes difficult to untangle, made me a bit cautious about this kind of approach. But here, nothing like that. Aurora is at anchor, I dock the shore in the annex and get to know the people around me. Ten minutes later, I am cordially invited to dive on Cook Reef and visit the village, filling my bag with fruits and vegetables at the same time. This first contact with the incredible hospitality of the people of the Pacific now becomes for me, the luxury of a daily life whose value I will never forget.<Br><Br>Here is finally the first of those moments of which I dreamed so much. Alone, underwater, I explore a site of incredible beauty, Cook Reef. Everything is wild. I am captivated by the density of coral. No way to find a square meter of sand to lay a palm on. Enormous tuna form a circle around me like sharks would do, gorgonians sport a weave without the slightest defect, billfish stroll in the current, and nephtyas delight the lens of my camera. There reigns an atmosphere of indescribable purity. At this rate, the book of underwater photographs that Philippe commissioned me will be quickly illustrated. On board, my friend Paco, originally from the island, shows me the other diving possibilities and tells me about the very sad sinking of a pleasure boat on this same reef. It is also him who will give me some leaves from a welcome tree in order to heal this "scratch" that has been bothering me for a week now. Scraping being the reaction of a toxin contained in certain fish that unsuspecting people like me make the mistake of consuming. In two days of regular infusions, the symptoms have disappeared.
