Located in the beautiful Quebec region of the Eastern Townships near the US border, the residence l'Effilée unfolds in a long slender volume. Nestled on the steep shores of Lake Memphremagog, it opens onto a peaceful bay. This residence is solidly anchored in the rock thanks to its numerous stone retaining walls and paved terraces. Massive granite volumes of the region, the equipment of which is without mortar, serve as bases on which rises an impressive roof 34m long with sharp ends like a blade. From the street, this element literally becomes a fifth facade. The approach, discreet and fascinating, gives us the impression of sinking into the ground between a hanging garden and the house. Between the volumes of stone, black wood exterior walls hide, thanks to a very precise finish, a large garage door. These dark and massive facades at the access contrast with the huge bay window of the entrance from which a view of the lake is revealed immediately. The austere and rough appearance of the exterior does not bode very large interiors, bright and airy. Large bay windows, skylights and walls of immaculate white come flood the light places that offer us this time all the views of the lake. At times reaching more than 7m high, ceilings stretch to inflate the amplitude of these living spaces. The rooms are in succession and offer, in addition to the owners' apartments, two luxurious suites with full bathrooms and adjoining lounge, a sauna and a training room. A service corridor that connects the main entrance to the ground floor entrance also connects the entrance to the garage, a small washroom, laundry room and pantry that provides direct access to cooking by a secret door. The kitchen and the built-in furniture of the fireplace that conceals the television were designed down to the smallest detail to mask all the technical aspects. The whiteness of the kitchen is revealed as an extension of the ceilings and walls while the island is born from the extension of floors covered with large blades of white oak. Worthy of the big hotels, the minutia of the details, the richness of the materials and the control of the lines exude this soothing feeling of lightness. Using the same material as the residence, a boat shelter on the lake also offers an extra kitchenette and a magnificent roof terrace to enjoy the sunsets. The setting up of the residence on such a steep terrain necessitated the construction of numerous retaining walls which offered a great opportunity to develop hanging gardens. Illuminated in the evening, this cascade of vegetation is fully appreciated from the inside and comes to enchant the place.
