This one is definitely a touching subject, but recently I came across a various sources and got familiar with this brutal sport, and it raised at least for me a big question, should bullfighting be banned for good, and just left out as a part of the history as some of the cultural traditions? Image Source at America's magazine First of all, this is one cruel sport where bulls give their lives just to entertain the public, and in my opinion, this just isn't right. We now live in so called modern civilization, and I cannot comprehend why is this still part of our modern days. It should be done something about it at least to find some solutions. The bullfighting is represent in countries like Spain, Portugal, Columbia and Mexico. A number of surveys where done on the subject, should bullfighting be banned and the numbers aren't promising, at least at such degree that the people are not interested in those particular subject. A study in Spain proves that 64 % of the people doesn't like bullfighting, but only 42 % Is that bullfighting should be banned. The numbers that suggest that people are watching and visiting such an events are not so great. Only 11% of people said that they been on a bullfighting event in the last two years, and only 9 % that people are watching on television such events. So this clearly indicates that people are not quite interested in such cruel performance. In my opinion, there is much more stuff to be considered about this. In the last year the two matadors where killed by the bulls and this was incident that shocked the public. At least for this, maybe they consider banning such events. I gotta say, that people are brave men to chose that profession, and certainly they know in what situation they might be every time they enter the Arena. But on the other side, more than 1000 bulls gets killed by the year, but seems that this is just the number for some people. Those are magnificent animals, and to face them, requires courage, and i really get the semantics of all those stories. But does it really should be a fight to the death? Living in a so called civilized age and times. On the other hand, there are people that passionately defending this sport, calling it more of an tradition and art. And I agree to some extent to them also. They are saying that this sport is not as cruel as it seems. They say, when they raised bulls, they make sure that they provide perfect conditions so that the bull can develop physically and mentally for such event. They say that they lived in so much better conditions and live more happily lives than the average catle who is doomed for a slaughter-house. They say, they have space, open fields, proper nutrition, vets, technicians, and they do their best to raise big and strong bulls. And I am totally agree with this. You cannot denied that this is true, but I think what the main problem is, just a media attention. Something that is not in the media, it doesn't exist, But the problem is still here. We truly as a mankind made this world at our own needs. One thing I am agreeing to this is, that bull is earning a great deal of respect before he lost his live, unlike the regular cattle that ends up in a machine to get to our plates, so we could eat. They maybe deserve even more respect than the bulls. But we don't think about this, so it's not our problem. We have a demands, and it must be provided. One thing is certain, it would be really nice to see some changes to this things. Even if we continue to eat that meat, we can at least pay some respect to that meat that they provide for us some vital nutritions, so we need to repay them on some level, and a great deal of that. Even in the old days, in some Indian tribes, when the hunter kills some animal so he could eat, they pay them respects appreciating that, this animal gives it's own live so the hunter could survive. The law of the nature. I think that is so much more civilized than this. But in this days, does it really necessary to end such fight with a death. Often times, the bull doesn't die immediately when the sword is pierced through his back, and it takes maybe 5 or 6 of those swords to finish the job. You made your point at the first sword. And also, there is a question about economy and numbers justification, that this type of entertainment bears a number of employees, bringing the money to the budget, truly I think that is the least of the problem. What do you guys think?
