I arrived in Portland, Oregon to see my daughter and grandchildren. She lives about an hours drive from the airport when there is traffic, so I decided to try the light rail system in Portland. It is supposed to be very good.  I would only need to take one line, the red line, and didn't have to transfer anywhere.  I thought this should be easy and it was.

The station is just at the end of baggage claim area and it wasn’t a very long walk.  I found this information kiosk which told me everything I need to know.  As you can see the fair is not bad. $2.50 for 2 1/2 hours which is the one I needed and $5 for all day.

So I went to the ticket machine and answered three questions, put my credit card in the scanner, it spit out a ticket and I was ready to go!

I went out to the station and a train was already there waiting.  They say one leaves every 15 minuets.

I got on it wasn’t very crowded and got a seat for the ride.

Off we went. The trains run on electricity, so they are not very noisy and very efficient.  We stopped about every minute or so at the various stations.  Some just in the middle of a road.

We got to pass all the traffic on the freeway.

When we got near downtown Portland we went over a big bridge.

The train went right down the middle of the roads.  Many people were getting off and on as everything ran smoothly.

I made it to my stop in about 55 minuets. I got off and went up this elevator and my daughter picked me up. Very easy! I look forward to riding the train again!
