Overstock.com (OSTK) CEO Patrick Byrne plans to sell off the retail portion of Overstock.com by February according to the Wall Street Journal [Here](https://www.wsj.com/articles/overstocks-founder-bets-on-blockchain-not-bedsheets-1542969001) in order to focus on their blockchain startups and tZero, its crypto trading business.

Their stock has currently popped 28% higher on the news in an otherwise down market...

They are now betting the future of that brand on multiple blockchain start-ups through their fully owned subsidiary called Medici Ventures.

Overstock.com has invested $175 million in Medici, which has been losing money since 2014.  One of its best-known start-ups tZero, a trading system which hasn't launched commercially, is also so far losing money.
