Mini Motivation #77 - The monk who couldn't walk on water

Once there were three monks, who decided to take some food, some reading materials, and a boat out to a distant, isolated island, so they could have a discussion of philosophy.

So off the went, two of the monks slightly older than the last. The youngest one offered to row the boat, and the other two appreciated his proactiveness.

A few minutes in, the elder of the monk shouted,

*"Hold on! How can we have a good discussion without some papers and pencils? Let me go back and get some rather quickly."*

And with that, he just leaped over the side of the boat, stood on the water, and walked back to shore.

The youngest monk was shocked to see that feat, and deep down, he thought to himself,

*"Wow, he can walk on water? I am going to learn so much today!"*

After a while, the eldest monk walked back on the water, and onto the boat, a package of papers and pencils with him. He nodded for the youngest monk to go on.

And went on he did, for a while, before the second monk exclaimed,

*"Hold on! How can we have a proper discussion without tea to drink? I have prepared some, so let me go back and grab them rather quickly."*

And with that, he, too leaped over the boat, onto the surface of the water, and walked back to shore.

The youngest monkey thought to himself,

*"Wow, him too? I am going to learn so much from these two masters, but at the same time, I hope they don't forget anymore things, because it's going to be my turn to volunteer and I don't know how to walk on water! How embarrassing will that be?"*

Soon enough, the second monk returned with two jugs of warm tea, walked across the water and onto the boat. He nodded for the youngest monk to continue the journey, and went on, the impressed young monk did.

As they were halfway there, dark clouds started to form at the horizon, and the eldest monk said,

*"I hope it doesn't rain and cut short our discussion. And to think we didn't bring the umbrellas."*

The youngest monkey was afraid this would happen, but he did not want to show that he wasn't as skilled as the other two monks.

*"Allow me to return to shore and pick up some umbrellas, masters."*

And without much thinking, he leaped over the boat, and into the water! He would have drowned if the other two monks did not drag him back on the boat.

As they covered him with some extra cloths they brought, the youngest monk was shivering and crying at the same time. The monks were confused, and voice still shaken, the wet, sobbing monk explained that he felt so useless and undeserving because unlike the other monks, he couldn't even walk on water.

The two eldest monks looked at each other and laughed.

*"Young Master. Of course you couldn't walk on water. We couldn't too!*

*"We just knew where the rocks were."*

In life, when we see someone performing something that we aspire to do, it's always wise to put ego aside and ask for advice. Rather than try to attempt ourselves and fail, it would be better to be shown where the rocks are, so the learning curve can be shorten.

**Mini Motivation** is my own daily strategy to inspire myself. Mostly 3-minute reads.

From *Motivation*, we gain ***Inspiration***. From *Inspiration*, we achieve ***Momentum***. And the rest, they say, is history.

Hope it helps nudge you a bit too in the right direction.

***Oh it did?*** Let me know in the comments, and of course an upvote would be a nice motivation for me. :)

Stay awesome!

*Wait, why's Mav posting on Steemit nowadays?*

Well, unlike other blogging and social media platform, **Steemit** is the only platform that allows me to earn cryptocurrency when I engage with it. Yup, one Steem is about USD5, and you, too, can earn Steem Dollars every time you:

- Create content (articles, blog posts, podcasts, videos, photos)
- Upvote (like) other people contents
- Comment on other people's posts
- Have discussions, share opinions etc!

Yup, basically it's the very same thing you're doing on Facebook, Twitter, Instagram etc all along!

*The only difference?* For once you can earn a nice income on the side!

Sign up for a [free Steemit account](https://steemit.com/pick_account), and you can thank me by coming back and upvoting this article. And guess what, you will earn Steem too for doing that! #awesome
