Freedom to play, beach of their own
Soldiers weep, guarding their zone
Kicking a ball, with family for fun
Hero’s fighting, a protecting gun

A summer's day, sunlight so bright
A darkened day, our soldiers plight
The picnic blanket, sharing their meal
Rations scarce, struggling to heal

A friend yells out, pass me the ball
A brother falls, his life given for all
Children laugh, relaxing weekend
Families they cry, their sacrifice lend

Two pictures combine, just to relate
Sacrifice in blood, apology to late
Lest we forget, a reminder in rhyme
Our blessings counted, for all of time
