There is something remarkable about walking the streets of Kumasi. More than just moving from one space to another, it is an exploration filled with engagement, laughter, and human connection.

As you manoeuvre through the active neighbourhoods, you are greeted with genuine smiles and spontaneous waves from perfect strangers who quickly feel like lifelong friends. The greetings are meaningful, the energy is open and welcoming, and everyone you meet is seemingly down to share their own story—from the woman selling food on the corner to the young man happily offering you directions that you did not ask for. Every experience becomes a moment.

It is exciting when there is so much diversity within a place, while walking and speaking with people on the streets of Kumasi, traders, students, elders, and artisanal crafts, each of which contributes its own distinct melody. It does not matter if the conversation with a stranger lasts longer than a blink; they provide a glimpse of the hospitality and curiosity that we embrace as part of the Ghanaian culture.

Having the experience of walking the streets of Kumasi reinforces to me that as much as a city is dominated by community and culture, so much of that can be realised in a moment. It is not only about where you are going but, importantly, the people you are with, even if for only the moment.
