Classic Decked Out Lineup | Splinterlands #455

Lineup placement in splinterlands is everything. I have seen players with strong cards lose simply because they put them in the wrong spots. I have done it myself, and there is nothing more frustrating than knowing you had the win, if only your tank was not sitting helpless in slot two or your glass-cannon DPS was not exposed to Sneak damage. The biggest myth is that you can just jam your best cards into a team and hope for the best. You cannot. Splinterlands is all about tactical strategy, where every card's position can mean the difference between victory and defeat.

That is why I am a fan of lineups that cover all the bases. Frontline tanks, backline damage, backline protection, and contingency plans for rule sets like Sneak, Snipe, or Blast. If your tank goes down and you have nothing to soak hits in the backline, it is game over. If your damage dealers are exposed too early, you are done. So, when [the splinterlands Community Engagement Challenge](https://peakd.com/hive-13323/@splinterlands/splinterlands-community-engagement-challenge-splinterlands-learning-journey-syuju0) is to showcase a favorite lineup, it felt like the perfect chance to break down one of mine.

- Mana Cap: thirty-eight
- Rulesets: Fab Five, Holy Protection, Equalizer

### Line-Up Details

- Summoner: Alric Stormbringer (+1 magic damage to all friendly monsters)
- Position 1: The Kraken (taunt tank). The Kraken goes first. High health, Taunt, and big damage. But he is there to take hits first and stall for my magic backline to do their work.
- Position 2: Prismatic Energy (support tank, magic reflect). Prismatic Energy sits second because of Equalizer in this battle. Everyone's health starts the same, but Prismatic's Magic Reflect ensures that if magic comes my way, the enemy takes damage in return. And if my main tank falls, Prismatic steps in without breaking the lineup rhythm.
- Position 3: Riverboat Captain (blast magic DPS) and Position 4: Ruler of the Seas (blast magic DPS). Riverboat Captain and Ruler of the Seas are my big guns, dealing the high magic damage.
- Position 5: Crustacean King (healer and armor repair). Crustacean King goes in the back because he is fragile, but can still hear from there and aid in the survivability of my tanks.

### Why This Lineup Works

The reason this lineup sits among my favorite is simple: it has answers for almost everything. You have the beast up front in The Kraken, whose job is to absorb as much damage as possible. He is a beast with high health and armor, good speed, and the Taunt ability that forces the enemy to focus fire on him. But as everyone knows, one tank is not enough. That is why Prismatic Energy sits in position two as my backup tank. If The Kraken goes down, Prismatic steps forward with solid health and Magic Reflect to punish the enemy.

The heart of this lineup lies in the dual-Blast damage duo: Riverboat Captain and Ruler of the Seas. Both bring Blast magic damage, which is perfect for destroying backlines as their offensive output is lethal when protected properly. And anchoring it all is Crustacean King. This card does not do much damage, but its heal and armor repair keep the entire team ticking along. It is the kind of card player often overlooked, but it is the glue that holds a longer fight together.

### How The Battle Went

This battle played out almost exactly as planned. The Kraken did his job but fell faster than expected under the enemy's barrage of magic damage. Taunt is a double-edged sword in these situations. It forced every enemy hit onto The Kraken, and that is why a second tank matters. Prismatic Energy slid forward and absorbed the barrage of magic damage but reflecting magic at the enemy. The real stars were Riverboat Captain and Ruler of the Seas. Unleashing Blast damage and tearing through the enemy lineup. Meanwhile, Crustacean King quietly kept Prismatic alive with healing.

It is a classic strategy in nearly every TCG: damage and shield upfront, high DPS in the back, and some healing or mitigation that is protected by a backline meat shield. This match ended as a satisfying win, thanks to the core principle of protecting damage dealers and always planning for your tank's eventual fall.

Concluding Thoughts
-------------------

This lineup I featured is a classic lineup that covers all bases in offence, defence, and sustain. For anyone new, my advice is simple: focus on structure, not just cards. Protect your damage dealers. Always have a backup tank. And never, ever underestimate the power of a healer.
