One of the 5 predictions that the late Hawking made is that our time here on earth would end soon. That is in about 1,000 to 10,000 years from now. He claims that humans by then would be living on interstellar colonies and he is very certain about it. He further claims that astronomical events like the asteroids smashing into earth and supernovas' radiation destroying earth's electromagnetic fields would be some of the factors that would make the planet inhabitable to humans.

The ever-expanding population was also cited to be one of the factors for human beings to spread across the galaxy. At one point in the future, earth would no longer be able to support and feed earth population and so unless we start creating colonies among the stars, we would probably be killing each other for food.

This is very bold predictions and has lots of assumptions. First and foremost is that the possible world war 3 which will be for sure immensely catastrophic due to nuclear bombs will not wipe out humans from the face of the earth. It's a fairly weak assumption if we look at our history for the last 2,000 years. 

Another is the advances in IA. While he predicted that IA will eventually become a reality and will do more harm than good on humans, he assumes that IA will not become self aware hence wont treat us humans as parasite on this planet that needs to be extinguished. Or perhaps he watched he Terminator movie and agrees with the happy ending and heroism by Connor. 

What's striking about his predictions is that having colonies throughout the galaxy means we will be living in a digital age. The age where physical form of money no longer exist. Gasoline would no longer be the main fuel for machines, diamond and gold may no longer be the most precious metals etc.

Money in this digital age will for sure be digital as well. Otherwise, it doens't seem practical to mints money and carry those across the galaxy when you travel. I think blockchain, bitcoin and altcoins will be powering this age. I think we would have developed a 100th generation bitcoin and altcoins by then.
