TEACHING THE BLIND TO READ

It has been raining here for some time so I miss my rock, but will get there again soon.

Now I have to stay home, and think about what to write about my days as principal. It is so much nicer on the rock as there you just have nature and the sea. For some reason the quiet with just the birds and the sea make me think better.

So with my wife who never stops talking is making me laugh as she does not realize she is making it more difficult for me to think.

I am going to suggest that she read a book that is one way of making her hear and see nothing around her.

She absolutely loves reading, and that is why it is so important for everyone to be able to read, you can make them quiet.

Just joking she does love reading but is not really bothering me.

I was thinking about people who cannot read. It must be terrible.

If you think about it there are people who cannot read, yet we teach the blind to read.

That is so sad, that there are blind people who can read, and people with no eye problems that cannot.

I am not saying that there is something wrong with teaching blind people to read, it is probably one of the most important things we can do for them.

The sad thing is that we have people who can see well, and are even intelligent who never learnt to read.

That is what is so sad.

Can you imagine going through life, walking past a book or newspaper, and not being able to read what it says.

I cannot as my newspaper is such a wonderful way to sit and read what is happening in the world.

Unfortunately even books, and other reading material are disappearing. The reason is that everyone reads on the internet or on the television.

When the electricity goes off, as it does here quite often you have nothing to do if you do not have any reading material.

I believe that there are even some libraries closing down they do not have the same amount of people who use them and for that reason they just move the books to other libraries in bigger towns.

I remember as a child we even had a bus that was a library that came once a week, and we were all waiting for it as it meant we could get new reading material.

Those were like ice cream cars, we just could not resist it at all.

I wonder how many people remember that little bell that rang and we all started jumping around waiting for it to come as we all got money for ice cream once a week.

What I am actually realizing is that life has really changed a lot with technology, but as children we could not get to a shop to buy ice cream and had to wait our turn.

I am sure that there are still children who have to stay at home, and if they want something, their parents have to jump in the car and go and buy it at a shop.

I think if we still had libraries moving around and reaching houses, especially for those schools that do not have libraries, it would also make children read more.

That would be like a fun thing for them and if you ask the child what the story he had read was about, there would definitely be more readers.

We have wonderful writers who wrote series for boys and others for girls, and we all loved going to get the book that would tell us what was going to happen in the next book.

So now my wife is reading, I had some wonderful memories, and I really think it would be good for children if we had bus libraries that came to their home.

Hope you enjoyed my true story and have a wonderful day.
