Paper Piecing and shadowing techniques.
With die-cuts there are a wealth of techniques you can use.

Paper-piecing is easy with these Tattered Lace dies because they seem to have been designed with the practice in mind. It’s a stunning method of making your images even more interesting and dimensional.

This is the collection of free dies I got with my magazine subscription [see previous post](https://steemit.com/life/@michelle.gent/papercraft-resources-how-to-competitions-and-help-all-in-one-parcel).

I cut out three images from the die – the red one first and the black and silver together. I placed the black card over the silver and put the die on top, sandwiched them together and put the whole lot through my die-cutting machine. I did this on purpose so the silver cut-out would be cut less deep. In other words, the holes wouldn’t be cut out so they would show through the other two die-cuts. It worked out really well because the holes were defined but not cut right through.

When the die-cuts are put together, they’re all exactly the same but with a pair of sharp and accurate scissors, you can make lots of different images.

The other technique I mentioned is ‘shadowing’.

I cut out three dies in black and light blue:

They’re pretty on their own, right?

But see how effective they look when placed on top of their ‘shadow’.

These die-cuts can be used in conjunction with their shadow or as a silhouette – for ‘Fairy jars’ for example.

I’ll make one of those later as a project.

Happy Crafting!
