Hello friends in the IndiaUnited community. I am excited to participate in this [writing contest](https://peakd.com/hive-197685/@indiaunited/indiaunited-new-contest-and-last-058a3b7027daf). The theme is an interesting one, and it's not a fairy tale for me. The advice for a school leaver in the Nigerian context is **Learn Digital Skills and Join Hive** [Pixabay](https://pixabay.com/illustrations/ai-generated-graduation-man-male-8369776/) I finished my university education some five years ago, but fortunately, I have been unable to secure a government job. It is not my reality alone; others also suffer the same fate because of the paucity of jobs available, while there are increasing numbers of graduates. Just last week, a lot of university students in my neighbourhood took their final examinations, and the internet was frenzied with their photoshoots. Great! I hope to share this content on my web2 social media handles with as many as I can so they can learn. As a young Nigerian stepping out of school into a dynamic and challenging world like ours, the opportunities before you are vast, but so are the obstacles. In our country, unemployment rates hover around 33% (based on recent economic data), and traditional job markets are fiercely competitive. Thus, acquiring digital skills can be your ticket to financial independence. ### Why do digital skills matter for Nigerian school leavers? Nigeria is Africa’s largest economy, with a rapidly growing tech ecosystem. Cities like Lagos, Abuja, and Port Harcourt are becoming hubs for innovation, with startups like Paystack, Flutterwave, and Andela gaining global recognition. The rise of Nigeria’s tech industry, coupled with increasing internet penetration (over 50% of Nigerians have internet access as of 2025), has created a demand for skills in areas like coding, copywriting, digital marketing, data analysis, and cybersecurity. Unlike traditional careers that often require years of experience or connections, digital skills offer a relatively accessible entry point for young people who are willing to learn. Moreover, digital skills will open doors to global opportunities. With Nigeria’s naira facing persistent depreciation, earnings in foreign currencies through remote work can be more meaningful. I am a living witness. There are many platforms, such as Upwork, Fiverr, and LinkedIn, that allow Nigerian youth to offer services such as web development, graphic design, or content creation to clients worldwide, bypassing local economic constraints. ### Why do you need to join Hive as a Nigerian school leaver? While there are many other platforms you can earn from, as I outlined above, Hive stands out as a unique, decentralized blockchain-based social media ecosystem that empowers users to create, share, and monetize content while building a community. Recently, data has shown that Nigeria’s creator economy is booming, valued at a significant share of Africa’s $3.08 billion market and projected to grow to $17.84 billion by 2030. With that, many young people are looking for opportunities to find their voices on platforms like Facebook, Instagram, etc. However, I know how much tedious work is needed before one can begin to have a meaningful earning. To be candid, joining Hive is simple and offers a promising pathway for young people to tap into this digital revolution. All that a new user needs to do to have his or her voice heard on the Hive social platform is to be ready to engage. You earn 7 days from the day you started posting. We know the welcoming #introduceyourself content usually receives support. Unlike traditional platforms like Instagram or YouTube, where monetization often requires rigorous verification or massive followings, Hive rewards creators directly based on community engagement and votes, making it accessible to beginners. Your Hive backed dollar (HBD) and Hive tokens are received directly into your wallet, and you can trade in the p2p market for Naira with ease. Aside from the earnings, there is no gatekeeping on Hive. Unlike Web2 platforms, Hive does not require a large following or complex monetization thresholds. Anyone can start creating content (blog posts, videos, or microblogs) and earn based on community upvotes. While creating content, there are opportunities here to hone skills like writing, photography, art, video editing, and digital marketing. We have read stories of many Nigerians who are making a living from their Hive earnings. Being on a blockchain, you own your content and rewards. There is no fear of account suspension like we often see on Facebook and others. Hive gives you full control over your content and earnings, free from the censorship or algorithm changes common on centralized platforms. This autonomy is what a Nigerian youth, who value independence in a challenging economic environment, needs. ### How to Get Started on Hive as a Content Creator I saw this compilation post made by @threespeak, and I think it can be of great help for those who want to join Hive and start from scratch to earn. [Here is the post link](https://ecency.com/hive/@threespeak/the-journey-to-be-a-hivean). In the post, you will find links to several other tutorials on how to get started as a creator on Hive Joining Hive and thriving as a content creator is straightforward, even with Nigeria’s infrastructure challenges, like unreliable internet or power. Joining Hive as a Nigerian school leaver will be a smart move to ride the content creation wave. It is a platform where your creativity, hustle, and community engagement can translate into skills, connections, and income. Thank me later.
