Want Bitcoin Exposure in your IRA or Stock Trading Account? Here is what I've found.

I wanted to get some Bitcoin exposure in my IRA accounts so I started researching to see if that was even possible. I came across the Bitcoin Investment Trust. The ticker symbol is GBTC. It is sold over the counter, OTCMKTS:GBTC. Today the closing price was $710. I made my first purchase a few weeks ago. When Bitcoin's price fell I added to my position.

The Trust trades at a very high premium based on the amount of Bitcoin is actually held. It is not a true ETF. As of August 31st the valuation of the Bitcoin to share price was 0.09242821. So yes, the share price is at a premium. This premium seems to expand and contract as well.

The custodian company that is holding the Bitcoin for the Trust, Xapo, is said to be holding it in cold storage. I am unable to determine if the holdings are insured or not.

As with any Cryptocurrency related investment, GBTC is very volatile and risky. Please do your own due diligence.

Disclaimer time: I am currently long GBTC. This is not a recommendation to buy or sell GBTC.
