While on a cruise ship on route to Bermuda, I had my Nikon 18-200mm lens with me. This is an awesome travel and walk around lens as it'll give you tons of reach. It's compact, lightweight has vibration reduction and "only" about $650 usd. For the quality of the lens and the price - you can't beat it!

They also make an 18-300mm lens for $695. I haven't used it before but I'm sure it's up to par.
