Dearest community welcome back to a new installment of insight into the Hive ecosystem.

Today we're going to talk about how it's possible to increase your reputation in line with the purest tenets of democracy and meritocracy.

Many of you have surely heard of delegation, witnesses, curation; today we are going to analyze them and see in terms of blockchain what they consist of. All this is to emphasize the genius of this project.
## Witnesses - Backbone pillars of our blockchain.
Witnesses, are the fundamental part of the whole Hive ecosystem, without them most likely all of this would not exist!

Witnesses are so important because they are nothing but the validators of our transactions. We publish a post, make a comment, put an upvote, and they are so ready to keep the blockchain up to date.

Anything goes through them.

## How do they work?

On the profile homepage just below one's avatar is the button with "witnesses," clicking on it takes you to the page for selecting your witnesses.

The system provides 30 votes to be able to elect one's witnesses.

In addition to having the clear power to validate the blocks they also have governance power to be able to vote on certain changes to the system proposed by users. Kind of like how it works for the ETH blockchain with EIPs (Ethereum Improvements Proposal).

**Not bad, right?**

Now more observant people might ask: How is it possible, then, that you can delete a post from the blockchain, since the platform gives you the option?

Well, the post is not actually deleted, it is simply removed from visible content, but it remains for all intents and purposes permanently written on the blockchain.

What's more, the interface warns of this peculiarity and alerts us when we decide to remove a post.

Carissima community bentrovati ad una nuova puntata di approfondimento dell’ecosistema Hive.

Oggi parleremo di come e’ possibile aumentare la propria reputazione in linea con i piu’ puri crismi della democraticita’ e meritocrazia.

Molti di voi hanno sentito sicuramente parlare di delegation, witnesses, curation; oggi andremo ad analizzarli e vedere in termini di blockchain in che cosa consistono. Tutto questo per sottolineare la genialita’ di questo progetto.
## Witnesses – Pilastri portanti della nostra blockchain
I testimoni, sono la parte fondamentale di tutto l’ecosistema Hive, senza di loro molto probabilmente tutto questo non esisterebbe!

I witnesses sono importantissimi perche’ altro non sono che i validatori delle nostre transsazioni. Pubblichiamo un post, facciamo un commento, mettiamo un upvote e loro sono prontissimi a mantenere aggiornata la blockchain.

Qualsiasi cosa, passa attraverso di loro.

Come funzionano?

Sulla homepage del profilo appena sotto al proprio avatar c’è il tasto con “witnesses”, cliccandoci sopra si accede alla pagina per la selezione dei propri witnesses.

Il sistema mette a disposizione 30 voti per poter eleggere i propri witnesses.

Oltre ad avere il chiaro potere di validare i blocchi hanno anche un potere di governance per poter votare alcune modifiche al sistema proposte dagli utenti. Un po’ come funziona per la blockchain di ETH con le EIP (Ethereum Improvements Proposal).

**Non male, vero?**

Ora le persone piu’ attente potrebbero chiedere: Come e’ possibile, allora, che si possa cancellare un post dalla blockchain, visto che la piattaforma ne da’ la possibilita’?

Ebbeme il post non viene effettivamente cancellato, viene semplicemente rimosso dai contenuti visibili, ma rimane a tutti gli effetti scritto in maniera permanente sulla blockchain.

Inoltre, l’interfaccia avverte di questa particolarita’ e lo segnala quando decidiamo di rimuovere un post.

The disclaimer at the top of the page explains generically what witnesses are, and there is a counter that informs how many witnesses have been selected out of the total available.

Care must be taken because the system, being democratically created, assigns the first witnesses on the list to write one block per minute, while those coming out of this ranking can be randomly selected to write the block.

Let's look more technically and according to the principles of blockchain operation at the true nature of Witnesses:
As we know, the Hive blockchain is based on DPoS or Delegated Proof of Staking consensus.

If you remember, in the previous article I said that the Hives that we buy, or that are attributed to us attrraverso the tips, in order to have more reputation we transform them into Hive Power. This transformation is nothing more than the transfer of Hive coins into staking.

Now the last step: ***being a DPoS protocol***, the witnesses are the proxies for our staking. Obviously all in keeping with the democratic nature of the system, they are divided equally for all selected witnesses.

Apparently I've spoiled the romantic side of the blog, but in this way we get a good understanding of the workings behind every possibility offered to us by the platform.

By knowing what underlies an action, we can manage it purposefully, with some knowledge, and, most importantly, to bring profit to ourselves and the community!

## Delegations
Another extremely important point is Delegations.

We simply give, in a fictitious way, a part of our HP (Hive in staking) to another user in the network.

In this way we increase, for the duration of the delegation, the reputation of the user to whom we have sent them; thus his "strength" in post curations is greater.

In order to access delegations, simply go into the "Wallet" tab see your Hive Power balance and click on the little arrow.

Il disclaimer ad inizio pagina spiega in maniera generica cosa sono i witnesses, e c’e’ un contatore che informa di quanti witnesses sono stati selezionati sul totale a disposizione.

Occorre prestare attenzione perche’ il sistema, essendo creato in maniera democratica, assegna ai primi witnesses della lista di scrivere un blocco al minuto, mentre quelli che escono da questa graduatoria, possono essere selezionati in maniera casuale per poter scrivere il blocco.

Vediamo in maniera piu’ tecnica e secondo i principi di funzionamento della blockchain la vera natura dei Witnesses:
Come sappiamo, la blockchain di Hive si basa sul consenso del DPoS ovverosia Delegated Proof of Staking.

Se ricordate, nell’articolo precedente ho detto che gli Hive che acquistiamo, o che ci vengono attribuiti attrraverso le tip, per avere piu’ reputazione li trasformiamo in Hive Power. Questa trasformazione altro non e’ che il trasferimento delle coin Hive in staking.

Ora l’ultimo passaggio: ***esendo un protocollo DPoS***, i witnesses sono i delegati per il nostro staking. Ovviamente tutto in linea con la democraticita’ del sistema, sono suddivisi in parti uguali per tutti i witnesses selezionati.

Apparentemente ho rovinato il lato romantico del blog, ma in questa maniera capiamo bene il funzionamento che si cela dietro ogni possibilita’ che ci viene offerta dalla piattaforma.

Sapendo che cosa sottende un’azione, la possiamo gestire in maniera mirata, con una certa cognizione e, soprattuto, per portare profitto a noi stessi e alla comunita’!
## Le Delegation
Altro punto estremamente importante sono le Delegation.

Semplicemente, diamo, in maniera fittizia, una parte dei nostri HP (Hive in staking) ad un altro utente della rete.

In questo modo aumentiamo, per la durata della delegation, la reputazione dell’utente a cui li abbiamo inviati; cosi’ la sua “forza” nelle curation dei post e’ maggiore.

Per poter accedere alle delegation e’ sufficiente entrare nella tab “Wallet” vedere il saldo dei propri Hive Power e cliccare sulla freccetta.

Pay close attention because you need to enter the final balance, which is the sum of the current balance plus the additional HPs we want to give.

Keep very clear in mind that this operation does not really change the wallets of the two users, but a smartcontract manages the exchanges numerically.

## Let me explain further.

My tokens do not leave my wallet at all, so the staking rewards do not change, ditto for the other user, they do not increase because his wallet remains unchanged.

So what purpose do I lend my HP for curations?

For rewards: each curator bestows a certain reward proportional to the tokens we employed in the delegation.

You know that operation that is often used in the DeFi world, Lending?

Well here it works pretty much the same way, of course we don't go through some DEX, AMM or other constructs purely dedicated to DeFi. Here we use a "simple" smartcontract that handles everything from wallet balances to rewards.

Prestate molta attenzione perche’ occorre inserire il saldo definitivo, ovvero la somma del saldo attuale sommati gli HP in aggiunta che vogliamo dare.

Da tenere molto chiaro in mente che questa operazione non modifica realmente i wallet dei due utenti, ma uno smartcontract gestisce numericamente gli scambi.

**Mi spiego meglio**

I miei token non abbandonano assolutamente il mio wallet, quindi le reward dello staking non subiscono alcuna variazione, idem per l’altro utente, non aumentano perche’ il suo wallet rimane invariato.

**Quindi a che scopo presto i miei HP per le curation?
**
Per delle ricompense: ogni curator elargisce una determinata ricompensa proporzionale ai token che abbiamo impiegato nella delegation.

**Eccomi pronto come un pompiere a interrompere l’idillio…** 

Avete presente quell’operazione che sovente si utilizza nel mondo DeFi, il Lending?

Bene qui funziona pressoche’ nella stessa maniera, ovviamente non passiamo attraverso dei DEX, AMM o altri costrutti prettamente dedicati alla DeFi. Qui utilizziamo un “semplice” smartcontract che gestisce tutto, dai bilanci dei wallet alle reward.

Per oggi mi fermo qua, ci rivediamo fra alcuni giorni che inizio a parlare delle piattaforme “satellite” che ruotano attorno ad Hive.
