Menstrual cramps also known as Dysmenorrheoa is the pains women pass through when they get their periods monthly. Although some individuals are so lucky they don't have cramps at all while the rest experience mild or severe pains during these few days. Some as well experience pre-period pains otherwise known as PMS (Pre-menstrual syndrome) which can come as early as a week before the period proper and can really be a pain in the ass. It gets very severe when the period finally comes and I bet you have to stay clear from such people cause they bite like ants and bark like dogs at this moment, I don't blame them one bit.

Some causes of period cramps.
- Pelvic inflammatory disease: This infection of the female reproductive organ caused when bacteria gets accumulated there.
- Cervical stenosis: Some women have very tiny cervical opening, so as the blood try to drop it causes a painful increase in pressure within the uterus.
- Hereditary: Period cramps can be hereditary, that means it runs in the gene and once you have a family member that experience such, then there's a possibility you'll likely have it too.

When ladies have cramps, they experience so many other illnesses all at a time alongside with other symptoms like:
 - Dizziness with continuous headache
Pain that radiates to your lower back and Inner thighs.
- Nausea and loss of appetite, while in others increased appetite and quest for any kind of edibles. These ones will literally swallow you if you delay giving them food, so in such situations they binge eat.
- Loose stools and runny stomach
- Many get so aggressive, scream and yell over silly things. The mood swings is on another level and they actually struggle to handle their temper.
- Being sleepy and having the desire to stay in bed all day.
- Skin irritation and acnes on the face, to some their skin gets so fresh like that of a new born baby.

Sometimes these symptoms gets really worse and you prolly need to see a doctor, if not you may be putting yourself into more risk. I have a friend who spends her period days in the hospital every month being on drip cause she doesn't handle how bad hers is. I as well know others who take injections along side pills to help reduce this effects. So keep a check and try to see a doctor if your cramps disrupt your life every month, or your symptoms progressively worsen, or you just started having severe menstrual cramps after age 25, or even when you bleed heavily and have to change over 10 times a day

However, whatever that has a cause should as well have a solution so there are so many ways to handle period cramps based on what works for you. The major aim here is to get relieved and lessen the pains a bit and that's what everyone tends to achieve. Here are some of the ways you can deal with cramps:

- Having a warm bath and as well taking lots of warm water instead of cold water, this will help to make the flow of blood easier and lessen the cramps.
- Use of hot tube can as well be of great help ie a rubber tube filled with hot water is placed on the lower abdomen to help you feel warm a bit.
- Exercise goes a long way to help minimize this pain, a few Yoga or even some stretching can help you recover, you can as well take a walk or jog depending on how comfortable you are.
- Avoiding the intake of sugary contents can help to reduce this too, the more sugar you take the more the chances of getting severe cramps. So when aunty flo is in it's way, reduce the intake of sweet and sugary things.
- Use of pain relievers to help subdue the pains. Drugs like Paracetamol, Diclofenac, ibuprofen, Felvin, and some others may help you feel better but be careful on which to take cause these NSAIDS can well cause ulcer. So it's best to see your doctor for proper recommendations and prescriptions.
- Pad yourself well and try to go ahead with your daily activities as always.

To some they believe the secret to escaping this pains is by getting pregnant and I can't help but laugh, it's not always the way we think it is. I know a lady with 2 kids who still have period pains, I as well have a friend whose mum still suffers this even as she's in her late 40s. So whichever way, carry your cross with fate.

However, periods are very natural and doesn't have any bad effect on us. It's not a sin neither is a bad thing. So try to show a lady around you be it your sister, friend, girlfriend, wife love these few days by helping out with anything as little as it may be. Buy her pads, massage her back and waist etc. You wouldn't really know what they go through and I bet you that little act of kindness goes a very long way and means a whole lot to them.

So hey ladies! Take care of yourselves, stay protected and stain free💞
