This week the billionaire Elon Musk announced the launch of his new company Neuralink which will begin the process of trying to integrate 'neural-lace' technology into the human brain so they can communicate with machines without a physical interface.

# Matrix-like technology

Whilst it may seem like something from the Matrix movie, Musk believes that to implant electrodes into the human brain would allow people to upload or download their thoughts to a computer. This does indeed sound very Matrix-like in its approach.

The notion of this technology isn't something new, as it's already being used in the medical field to treat Parkinson's disease. There are also other applications for Musk's technology in the medical field like the treatment of epilepsy and for severe forms of depression.

# A solution to AI?

But aside from that, Musk is also hopeful that healthy humans can use the technology too. He hopes this can help reverse the rise of AI, and that humans can implant this technology to become as smart and as clever as their robot counterparts.

**Musk does believe in the long term that AI will take over a lot of human tasks, but sees his 'neural lace' as an opportunity for humanity to grow in other areas away from AI. He also believes in a Universal Benefit Income (UBI) for all citizens as we start to lose out to AI. I wonder if Morpheus from The Matrix could've predicted all of these new neural developments?**
