  # One Stone at a Time Our neighbor has been working on his foundation since Christmas last year. Before that the construction stopped for a year because the cost of penetrating the rocks was a lot more than the owner had bargained for. It wasn't just a matter of moving the rocks but also drilling through the rocks that they could not move. Some pretty big drilling equipment was brought in but that was slowed down with a snow storm and flooding. The land is build in a valley where all the streams in the mountain meet so his house was always the one that got the most water. Spring rains or a Typhoon could wipe out the whole yard. The engineers added water pipes running from the mountain streams through the building. Pipes were also set up to bring water up and to let drain water out throughout the walls of the building. Drill Frozen Removal of rocks Getting rid of more rocks # These city walls Now it is Spring and months later I see the first walls are set up. Not only the water system, but the casing for the electric is set up. From this point the building will go up quickly and will reach another five floors. That's the highest anyone is allowed to build in this neighborhood because it is a green belt. Most neighborhoods in Seoul build twenty stories or more, but we have a special little nature preserve or else my neighbors house would be a sky scraper too. It would be nice if with the new buildings they also made some room for side walks and trees, but mostly they just go straight up and the rooms they rent out are small and very expensive. I'm just glad to see that they took the time to make the foundation strong and provided a drainage system from the mountain so that whole building doesn't collapse in five years as some buildings have. There is basically a river flowing through the basement there twice a year so it has to be built well. I had a talk with the construction manager and the owner and we all agree that it is worth it to build the foundation well. They also made an agreement that if we don't complain about their construction noise then they won't complain about our music in the future. I think it is a pretty good deal. # You Don't Know what you've got 'till it's gone https://youtu.be/2595abcvh2M > They paved paradise and put up a parking lot Gotta love Joni Mitchell (Oh, bop, bop, bop) # And of Course U2 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=e3-5YC_oHjE There's not much I can do about the destruction of the city in the name of "development" but I do know what I'm looking for. I'm working on the foundation in my heart and in my children. I'm also attending the "Green Smart Classroom" seminar today. I have no idea what the content is but I think it has something to with getting rid of textbooks and using more smart books in school. The disadvantage I see is that we are really not getting rid of textbooks we are getting rid of paper textbooks. We still keep the propaganda the government sends us to put in kids' brains, but now the government can update more frequently and control little ones more directly through digitalization. Just my first thoughts. I kind of liked the paper books... at least kids could draw mustaches on the characters in the book. Now they just have a screen. # Finally the Guitars that Weep https://youtu.be/saEpkcVi1d4 Since I was a teenager Pink Floyd's guitar and drums remain in my mind. ***"An acre is the area of a rectangle, whose length is one furlong and whose width is one chain."*** I'm always surprised to see a powerful group still active and Pink Floyd definitely has it together. This song "Hey, Hey, Rise up!" is based on the Ukrainian anthem: "Oh, the Red Viburnum in the Meadow." The singer "Andriy Khlyvnyuk was on tour with his band BoomBox but gave up the tour to serve in the Ukrainian military. This song does not condone the war but mostly presents the sorrow of the situation we have at hand. The lyrics in English are included here: > Oh, in the meadow a red kalyna has bent down low, For some reason, our glorious Ukraine is in sorrow. And we'll take that red kalyna and we will raise it up, And we shall cheer up our glorious Ukraine, hey - hey! And we'll take that red kalyna and we will raise it up, And we shall cheer up our glorious Ukraine, hey - hey! > Do not bend low, oh red kalyna, you have a white flower, Do not worry, glorious Ukraine, you have a free people. And we'll take that red kalyna and will raise it up, And we shall cheer up our glorious Ukraine, hey - hey! And we'll take that red kalyna and will raise it up, And we shall cheer up our glorious Ukraine, hey - hey! > Marching forward, our fellow volunteers, into a bloody fray, For to free our brother Ukrainians from the shackles of Moscow. And we, our brother Ukrainians, we will then liberate, And we shall cheer up our glorious Ukraine, hey - hey! And we, our brothers Ukrainians, will then liberate, And we shall cheer up our glorious Ukraine, hey - hey! > Oh in the field of early spring wheat, there's a golden furrow, Then began the Ukrainian riflemen to engage the enemy. And we'll take that precious, early wheat and will gather it, And we shall cheer up our glorious Ukraine, hey - hey! And we'll take that precious, early wheat and will gather it, And we shall cheer up our glorious Ukraine, hey - hey! > When the stormy winds blow forth from the wide steppes, They will glorify, throughout Ukraine, the Sich riflemen. And we'll take the glory of the riflemen preserving it, And we shall cheer up our glorious Ukraine, hey - hey! And we'll take the glory of the riflemen preserving it, And we shall cheer up our glorious Ukraine, hey - hey! We all just want peace
