0.000 HBDHi, I'm Matt Kenny...
Hey Steemians, I’m here because my dad @jkenny told me about this site. He said that Steem is a platform where you can get paid for your writing. I’ve never heard of a concept where people get paid directly for their content. Youtube is similar but you need millions of views and followers to even begin to scratch the surface of making a profit. I’ve been writing for a long time. Not a long as most because I’m only 24 years old but I remember the first day I wrote something that spoke to me. I was sitting in my room after school one evening. Some shit was going on. My parents were getting a divorce. My dog died. I got caught by my girlfriend’s parents being inside their house when I shouldn’t have been. 17yo Matt was stressin’. I picked up a pen and began writing lines down on the paper. They flowed effortlessly. My thoughts transcribed tangibly. I watched myself create my first poem via an out-of-body experience. My muse emerged. Fast-forward through my senior year of high school and I occasionally wrote a poem or scribbled some lines down. I never thought that I was a good writer before. I didn't do well in English classes and I didn't get a good score on the standardized writing test I took in middle school. I never really enjoyed writing growing up. I played video games and football in the street. A couple of weeks before graduating there was a talent show. I signed up to share some of my poetry. Growing up I performed in some community theater productions (The Cheshire Cat in Alice of Wonderland was my favorite role), and sang in Elementary School & Church groups. When I was in 3rd grade I wrote my mom a poem, “You Are the Reddest”. I performed Dreams at the Talent Show. Most of my friends were surprised and pretty much all of them were supportive. I studied at Florida State University (Tallahassee, FL). I grew up wanting to be a Gator and cried when I didn't get into UF (Gainesville). However, I witnessed James Winston & Jimbo Fisher lead the Florida State Seminoles to a National Championship in 2013. Football games inside of Doak Campbell Stadium are incomparable to any sporting event. That’s a lie… watching Germany beat Argentina in the World Cup Finale (2014) from the Brandenburg Gate in Berlin was pretty awesome. Parading through the Red Light District in Amsterdam following their stunning come from behind win against Mexico in the 2014 World Cup Quarterfinal is up there too. The summer of 2014 I took a 3mo backpacking trip throughout Europe. My first stop was Israel (3 weeks). Then I went to Italy (1 week), Switzerland (4 days), France (1 week), Belgium & the Netherlands (1 week), London(1 week), Germany (1.5 weeks), and Ireland (1 week). Oh yeah, and for the majority of the time I was completely alone. Solo travel is sort of my thing. After graduating from FSU, I moved to Breckenridge, Colorado to learn how to ski. I packed my car to the brim and drove to a place where I had no job, no house, and knew nobody. I’ve been on my fair share of adventures. My goal is to share my best stories with you.
