# Hello Hive Farming doesn't just end at harvest when you have packed and now have your harvested grain now at home. Work continue where you have to continually check your grains for pest and insects. We also have rodents that destroyed harvested Grains. Various preservative methods exist that we can use to preserve our harvested Grains. Different with its own methods of preservation. Beans/peas is one of the grains that gets infested almost immediately. Hence we use more stricter method to preserve beans watching over it keenly and from time to time. One method is the chemical preservative one. While some use sniper we have used a specific kind of chemical that looks like a Tablet. We just tie this and insert into the beans Such grains preserved with Chemicals can only be eating after 3months of storage. The chemical have very terrible Pungent smell which I believe is what is meant to keep away Beans weevils. This preservation method is really dangerous to ones health and for commercial farmers who have stored their grains, some of them barely wait for the chemicals to get expired before selling the beans in the market hence food poisoning can occur from there, if not instant poisoning the aftermath of chemicals can get stored in our bodice. Hence we have locally thought about ways to preserve our food without chemicals and this has been an effective method since last year. This method is as simple as making the environment conditions within the beans to be unfavorable for the weevils By controlling the moisture contents of the beans as well as other conditions Once your grains are harvested and you have sundried them very well(it is good to have them go through one more round of sun-drying before storage if there is need) pouring them in airtight container is a good approach, the container should be kept in dry surfaces always from exposure to dampness or any form of liquid. Another thing that is important to be done that we did was add enough Hot Dried Chilli pepper 🌶️. You can add as much of the pepper, hot pepper keeps away the weevils. Another preventative measure is to select all the beans that might have been infected from the farm Picking out the kind of beans marked above a ensures that it doesn't infect other beans in storage.
