# Hello Hive. Harvested rice can only be ready as food on our table after undergoing some series of processing. The four major ones are * Parboiling * Milling * Polishing. * De-stoning Depending on location and cost, either the four process is done or just the three process excluding polishing since we do not have the machines for doing that around here. Milling removes the husk from brown rice, while polishing is done to whiten the brown color. ---- Parboiling includes subjecting the rice grains into water treatment to make the husk much soft such that it can come out of the rice without breaking the grains. The technical processes involved will be brought here a subsequent time I do this process my self. Talking about milling. At this stage we often take the rice to a milling machine to do this task. Machines for working this out is very expensive and not common at all. Any machine that has a cost of a million naira and above cannot be purchased by every one or local farmers in this environment. This makes us have individuals who then volunteer to go into this business by purchasing these machines and creating a workshop where they mill villagers rice for a token. Here is a typical one of those Workshop and where I had often milled the family rice. ---- A bag of rice is milled $6. The milling machine is a diesel engine and diesel is sold around $1 per liter, this might have account for the high price of this process since the workshop owner has to make his profit from this as the source of income for his family. After milling we are fortunate that the community now has a de-stoning machine. You don't want a spoon of rice with stones like this in it. And for another $2, we get to remove all the stones. It is passed into a machine that filters out and separate stones from the machines. ---- ---- Farming and Agriculture can only get better when we have investors who are willing to make some good profits buying and installing this kind of machines and other necessary ones in village settings and location where people can have access to them. Machineries makes farming business an easy and attractive job, hence we can experience a drastic increase in production of rice and other grains.
