When I was 8 years old my parents bought a new house. My father worked day and night and finally he was getting a better salary and wanted to move in quite neigbourhood for me to grow up in. The former residents were an elder couple that lived there most of their lives but sadly the the old woman died of old age and the old man moved to a nursing home. Most of their stuff was removed but they left some behind.

The house was an old gothic house built in victorian time. A lot of people lived in these rooms and walked in these corridors through out the century, as a kid I didn't think about those things but the older I got the more I became intrigued by its history, but more to that later. The house had 4 bedrooms, one big kitchen, dining room and big living room. It had two floors, one basement and an attic that could be entered through a hidden staircase behind a closet on the second floor.

My early memories of growing up in that house was very happy. I was able to settle down quickly as we had this huge garden I could play around. There was also a lake nearby in a walking distance. The summer were always the best and eventually I made friends with other kids as I started going to school. My parents were happy, my dad was doing good at his work was promoted again. I grew up in a happy home.

One day I found the hidden closet that lead to the attic. My mom was in the kitchen making lunch and I was about to go downstairs when I found the closet door was opening a little bit. My parents had not yet bothered to check to the attic so I was the first one to find it. My curiosity made me open the closet a little bit more and I peaked in. I saw the steps that lead up to the attic was dusty and light shone from a window on the wall upstairs, there was also cracks on the walls and some marks that looked like scratches. I slowly ventured up on the stairs and grabbed the old wooden railing and drag myself towards the attic. I had to admit I remember feeling a little bit scared but suddenly I was in the attic and saw the room was full of stuff. The stuff was covered in white cloths that had layers of dust on top which probably had accumulated for many years by neglect. The air was also dusty and I tried to pry a window open. The hinges cranked and gave a noise as I opened it slowly and suddenly the wind drag the window to the wall, hitting it with a bang. My mom ran up quickly and found me in the attic. She wondered what I was doing and looked around in the attic in surprise. She slowly checked the stuff and uncovered some cloths. There was old furnitures, books, a trunk that had a lot of garbage. She then said that we needed to get down and eat lunch and lead me down.

I never thought about the attic for days until one day I was going down and saw the closet opened again. I remember there were more stuff that was covered and I suddenly had the urge to uncover them. I ran up to the attic and looked around, I opened the window but this time very quitely and used the window holder so the wind didn't catch it again. Mom was downstair as usual taking care of the house and cleaning and dad was away at work. I uncovered a birdcage on a pole which looked like it wasnt used at all. I also uncovered a dollhouse that had many miniature dolls and stuff. It had three section and was in very good condition. There was a chair under one of the cloth and a bookcase filled with books. And when I looked around it I noticed another thing behind. Something that was wrapped in paper and was a large square thing. I drag it out and began to unwrap it and saw a painting. It was a painting of a girl and she was the beautiful thing I had seen in my life. The girl in the painting had brown hair, pale complexion, tiny red lips but most of all she had big beautiful blue eyes that looked at me. And the more I looked into them the more I felt that the eyes looked very sad looking at me.

to be continued
