Govt backtracks, ministers can get PROs
of their choice

The government has backtracked on a
decision blocking the path for ministers, state
ministers and deputy ministers to get public
relation officers or PROs of their choice.
In the wake of criticisms by different quarters,
Information Secretary Abdul Malek in an office
order on Tuesday cancelled a circular issued
eight days ago.
The circular had said the information ministry
would pick and appoint PROs to different
ministries, divisions, departments and
agencies.
It had also mistakenly mentioned appointment
to posts under ‘information (radio) cadre’, but
officials on Monday pointed it out to
Information Minister Hasanul Haq Inu that no
such cadre existed.
Now the information ministry has cancelled
the circular, which officials said followed
‘complexities’ over the transfer of the PRO
and appointment of new officials at the ICT
Division.
