Tray feeders have friendly design so they attract different types of seed-eating birds especially sparrows,pigeons and grosbeaks. However they offer no protection to birds as they are open and seeds are prone to rain and can be wet. These type of feeders must have draining points so that water may be easily drained and seeds must be changed daily to keep these feeders clean enough. These feeders can be placed adjacent to ground to attract more and more birds.

These feeders offer nice protection to the birds, but if seeds become wet, it becomes home for fungus and bacteria thrive. Such feeders are somehow difficult to clean. These can be easily suspended on a pole. These feeders attract finches, sparrows, jays and chickadees.
