Dive into the future with Black Mirror

There are series and movies that make us understand that those dystopian futures that you are suggesting are closer than ever. I am not referring to those in which we travel to other worlds or in which we are visited by beings from other planets, but I am referring to those focused on technological advances and how they can affect our daily lives and how even society in general can change. And well, there is no clearer example than our present, social networks and other technological implementations have changed our way of seeing things and, therefore, our way of living.

It is impressive and perhaps alarming how fast technology is advancing, more and more we focus on the virtual and little by little we are moving away from interpersonal relationships, of course, the latter I mention is something quite gradual, but it is something that is happening. The truth is that everything I have written so far is based on the plots and subplots that the Netflix series “Black Mirror”, which premiered in 2011 and came to revolutionize science fiction, satire and futuristic dramas.

This series has 7 seasons, 1 special and 1 movie, being the cast of actors quite large among which I highlight Daniel Kaluuya, Toby Kebbell, Hayley Atwell, Jon Hamm, Jesse Plemons, among many others who consolidated their careers with their performances in this particular series. It is worth mentioning that each season and chapter tells a separate story and little or nothing related to each other, which gives the series a lot of dynamism as the stories have a beginning and an end in the same chapter and that is something that in these times when everything happens fast is appreciated.

Black Mirror shows us how the world and society's way of life could change after the implementation of advances in neural technologies and the way some social networks and other applications work. For example, one of the elements used are small devices that allow users to immerse themselves in virtual worlds in which everything is possible, these allow everyone to enter games or other environments according to their needs, then, in that sense, the different weaknesses and motivations of users are explored, thus discovering that the human mind can contain a lot of darkness.

In another aspect, the series shows how the ethics of technological advances are weakened by the ambition of corporations that care little about the welfare of users, but seek their own benefit and intensify their profits by any means, they use the needs of users to continue climbing in manipulation, deception, lies and even risking the mental well-being and lives of these. However, it lends itself for reflection the fact that we are increasingly slaves of our phones, social networks and how we are perceived in society, we are afraid to fail and in that sense we are able to appear or try to appear people we are not.

So, considering that of the 7 seasons each chapter tells a different story, we have a wide variety of stories of different genres and different nuances which are intended to make us understand that we are not so far from experiencing the situations that are raised there, the human mind is fragile enough to fall easily to social manipulation and the desire to appear. So I invite you to watch Black Mirror, believe me that each season has its charm and its touch of originality, I think it is a necessary series that invites you to change the way in which some science fiction series that do not end up contributing anything are presented.
