0.000 HBDWeekend Roundup: Casio DG-20 digital guitar, ATS pick results, and other Musings
### Well, the final game of the weekend finished with Detroit dismantling NY with the running game. NY once again looked lost on offensive even with the return of Beckham Jr. That's the 8th game in a row that the Giants have been held below 20 points. #### Speaking of bad offenses... The struggles continued for many teams, including the Bengals, 49ers Seahawks. As a Seattle sports fan, it was a rough weekend for me. The Mariners season is all but over (it has been for a long time but the sweep by Houston was the nail in the coffin. ##### It's important to remember that while the Seahawks have had a few good seasons most of my sports-fan life has been spent wallowing in misery. Seattle has not been the kindest in terms of sports. But I'm no bandwagoner! Sometimes celebrating in another teams loss just isn't enough. Trust me, the thrashing that the cowboys took up in mile-high was somewhat satisfactory, (Especially, since I had put money down on the game prior) it just wasn't enough. I was so sad in fact, I thought, "Hey let's go back and look at some of the worst of the worst in Seattle sports history to make me feel a little better. Specifically, I thought, let's look for something about bad offense just because the Seahawks have been so hard to watch. Seattle has a rich history of bad offenses across sports. I mean, for instance, we all know the Seahawks set the record for lowest points scored in a 16 game season. Ouch. #### But how about this gem: In 1983 the Mariners had a 102-loss season. That they finished last in the league in hits, batting average, on-base percentage and slugging percentage. Not to mention near the bottom in doubles, triples, homers, and walks. --- Speaking of 1983, I recently picked up a Casio DG-20 Digital Guitar. **Photo credit:** Created in photo shop by me. Yes, the photo is heavily edited. That ass, however, is not. ##### Here is a little Q and A: **Q: Is it a piece of crap?** A: Absolutely. **Q: Does it have a built in drum machine?** A: It sure does. So you no longer need friends to have a band. Which is good, because if you own one of these you probably don't have any friends. **Q: Is the fretboard responsive?** A: Absolutely not. It cuts out all the time. **Q: Does it capture the sound of the 80s?** A: It sure does, it sure does. **Q: To this point, do you find the Casio DG-20 a worthy investment?** A: Absolutely, it destroys any song I cover the same way kids today kill great songs with the acoustic guitar and a plaid shirt. --- #### That made me feel a little better then I found this: Mike Parrott was traded from the Orioles in 1977 to the Mariners from the Orioles. in 1979 he won a career high 14 games. Not too shabby, right? But then 1980 happened. He would open the season with a win only to lose his next 16 consecutive starts. 16 CONSECUTIVE STARTS. If only the 1983 Mariners could have faced him everyday in 1980. --- #### Week 2 Picks (ATS) - The good, the bad, and the participation-trophy-worthy. ##### Let's start with the good: >Philadelphia Eagles at Kansas City Chiefs (-4.5) I think Reid gets his revenge for the second time against his former team. Alex Smith, while not as dazzling as last week, gets it done in his ordinary-sort-of-way and the chiefs pull it off ATS. The Pick: KC 26-20 **Actual score: KC 27-20** >New England Patriots (-6.5) at New Orleans Saints I could throw out a bunch of awesome stats. But I think this is the most important one: ATS New England was 13-3 last year. I'll take those odds. Oh, and Belicheck doesn't lose twice in a row very often. Especially on a few extra days of preparation against a team who played on a Monday. Who made New Orleans schedule, anyway? The Pick: New England 33-20 **Final Score: NE 36-20** ##### The Bad >Washington Redskins at Los Angeles Rams (-2.5) I think LA starts out 2-0 and in sole possession of the NFC west through two weeks. Goff will come back down to earth, but that defense is good. Good ol' Captain Kirk will have a rough go this week. The pick: LA Rams, 30-20 **When will I learn you only bet on the rams when they play the seahawks?!** >San Francisco 49ers at Seattle Seahawks (-13.5) Since 2000, the Seahawks are 24-5 ATS in September home games. I REPEAT, the Seahawks are 24-5 ATS in September home games. I trust Vegas and their money making schemes on this pick. The pick: Seahawks 27-9. **I mean, the Seahawks won an ugly one, so that's the silver lining, but uh...** >Green Bay Packers at Atlanta Falcons (-2.5) Will Green Bay keep it up? I think they'll come in on the road and win outright. First game in the new stadium will be a sad one for the falcons. The pick: Green Bay 30-24 **Matty Ice must have read my blog... Sorry, bruh.** ##### The participation-trophy-worthy! >Cleveland Browns at Baltimore Ravens (-7.5) Kizer showed some promise in week 1 didn't he? But truth be told, I like this baltimore defense more than Pittsburgh. I think they will get to him early and often. However, I don't think Ravens cover. The Pick: Ravens win 23-20 but don't cover the spread. **Ok, ok... I drank the Cleveland Kool-aid after that tomfoolery Pitt was flashing last week. I go with the browns and it blows up in my face.** This trophy goes out to me: [source](https://patriotpatch.co/products/participation-trophy-morale-patch) --- ##### In closing I was able to catch some sumo on September 14th and after watching Onosho completely dominate Harumafuji I couldn't help but be reminded of the Mariner's 2017 season. 16 years and counting since their last playoff appearance.
