One Monday morning, I woke up early and quickly dress up for work.i enter my car and I decide to drive to office quickly before I run out late. After some minute driving I notice this needle like symbol indicating the car engine temperature, which have increase above it normal temperature.i tried my possible best to concentrate on my driving hoping that if I get to my work place I will check to examine what is wrong with my car. I decided to figure it out myself. After waiting for one hour, I decide to close the bonnet and start the car because the temperature of the car seems to have reduce, so I drive down to my office without any problem. Throughout my staying in office, I kept on wondering what on earth happen to me because that my first time such incident have ever happen. After am done for work I start my engine and I started driving home which is one of my daily routine, but my eyes was looking at the dashboard checking for that same needle like temperature symbol if it going to show up again, after some minute the temperature started rising like that of the last incident. I quickly switch off the air -conditioning system and the temperature decrease. I could not sleep when I got home, my wife ask me what happen to me but just have to lie to her that nothing is wrong. After some minute I Remember something which is my friend, he once told about one steemstem channel on discord, he said there are expert and great engineer such as @rharphelle, @ademola, @gentleshaid and @temitayo-pelumi which they posted a lot of article about automobile. I quickly open my system to check it out. I read some there post and finally some on how I can resolve my problem. I quickly call a friend of Mine who have knowledge about automobile. I told him few things which is. THERMOSTAT AND THE ENGINE COOLING SYSTEM According to Cambridge dictionary, a thermostat is a device which control the temperature of any system by switching it automatically with the supply of cool air or heat when the temperature become hot or cool.It is applicable to most home appliance such as ovens, iron, refrigerators and air conditioner e.t.c. Layman's also said that a thermostat is a device that always sense any change or also regulate the temperature of any system within it normal range. If wanna have the knowledge of a car thermostat, the knowledge of cooling a car is mostly needed. Most time this is done by the distribution of liquid coolant which is usually mixed with a solution called Antifreeze through a cooling system or a passage.some engine are cooled with the flowing of air. The cooling system in a car always make sure that the car temperature is normal, in this case more fuel are utilize if the optimum temperature is reduce. The modern cooling system have no different with the old ones, it just that there is more reliable and efficient in the function. The basic cooling system consist of liquid coolant that circulate round the cylinder and block, which also bring out the radiation to be cooled by the air coming in. The cooling engine always maintain the engine at normal temperature if the outside air temperature is about 100 degree Fahrenheit. If the engine is hot for so long the economy of fuel will reduce while the emission will rise. The thermostat is placed between the radiator and the engine, in order to make sure that the coolant stay above a normal temperature to ensure that the engine runs normally. FUNCTION OF THE THERMOSTAT Thermostat work to keep the engine on track by regulating it temperature with the present of flowing liquid that move from the engine compartment down to the radiator. Thermostat serve as a "closed loop" device which seek to reduce the problem between the measures and desired temperature.most time thermostat join the control action particle and the sensing particle of the controlled system. The word thermostat is said to be derived from a Greek word called thermos which means "hot" and "standing" which is stationary. It also serve as, it cause the flow of coolant to the radiator for the engine to warned up.so when the engine is cold, the coolant will not flow round the engine.if the engine get to it operating temperature which is (200 degree Fahrenheit, 95 degree C) then the thermostat open up. IS IT NECESSARY TO DRIVE YOUR CAR WITHOUT THERMOSTAT Yes , you can drive it, but your engine will be running cold and also consuming much of your gas, will also have less power which means your oil filling will be sludge.ypu will also shorten the life of your engine. An automatic door is that of an thermostat, it close and open to let the appropriate coolant to pass through in the radiator in order to cool.when the engine heat up, it will open up in order to let some coolant get through. At temperature and coolant power , it will remain open.when the coolant drop below it normal temperature which is (82c and 88c) then it will close.if you are driving at highway in a cold whether, the thermostat will not even open up because the cold air is going round the engine so it cool it. HOW I SOLVE MY PROBLEM I will say thermostat that is not functioning well will get the engine to start overheating.most time an engine that overheat always damage the thermostat. I continue using the car like hoping I will get another thermostat if I have the money to. Thank you.
