I took these photographs a few days ago now, and as I write this, it's from a completely different setting to the one featured in the images. I now sit in a well air conditioned room with a strong sunlight punching through the drapes. In the corner of my eye I see the swaying of tall pine trees that run up the mountains and across the landscape. Some of the most beautiful natural environments I have ever seen. The last few days have been a series of little experiences into new things, and I'm learning a lot of things about myself in the process. In Tbilisi there are cable cars that run throughout the city and provide transport to and from the more mountainous areas of the city. I am still yet to get on one of those, but it leads to another point: a funicular runs up to Mtatsminda Park in Tbilisi, an amusement park with a few odd things about its environment. Right at the back of it sits a large ferris wheel. I had never been on a ferris wheel before. And this one was *huge*. I knew I wanted to get on it, I knew I'd be absolutely terrified at the mere concept of it. But I got on anyway, not giving in to the fear of the unknown. Now, I hate heights. I hate being high up in some sort of contraption to which I feel there's no way out if things, well, go south. So it's not entirely the heights that's the problem, but perhaps more the lack of faith in the object that's holding me up. The same can be said for flying.

There are many areas of life to which I feel that I've never really explored as a result of fear. I've never really been to theme parks because of the idea of rides was too much for me growing up. Riddled with anxiety and fearing the unknown. Even if the outcome is likely to be totally fine and rather enjoyed. I have noticed that over the past few years a lot of this side of me has changed. I have a more act now, think about that stuff later attitude to exploration. Allowing myself to be thrown into what I would originally perceive as danger when in reality it isn't.

A four hour train ride on an old Soviet line took us to Borjomi. A resort town a little more to the side of Tbilisi. Covered in mountains on either side. An incredibly small and quiet town. The train still operated in a more dated fashion; while you could pay for the ticket at the kiosk at the train station, there's very little information to be found about its existence prior. You can't book them online in advance, you simply show up and get on. A small electronic machine sits in each carriage where you pay for your tickets. 2 Lari which equates to less than a dollar for the entire trip per person. The train was old, with hard plastic seats and no air conditioning. It rocked back and forth, squeaked and screamed with certain movements at certain speeds. The arrival of night was rather swift and led to a darkness that surrounded the already rather dim train interior. Small snippets of towns would appear from the artificial light. Strange looking areas that didn't seem real almost. A mostly older population relied on this train for the most part, a group of people that clearly utilised the train's one line direction for the purpose of getting to and from work in Tbilisi. Few other adventuring individuals would take the train to its final stop: Borjomi. Towards the end, the train was almost empty. And the thrill of all of this hit very quickly. I loved it. The feeling of adventure. The old way of life before easily buying tickets online and knowing all things about where you're going and how to get there.

I wasn't even sure the train actually existed until I actually saw it pull up. So little information about it online and its schedule. It felt spontaneous; a sudden adventure in which bags were quickly packed and legs were rushed out of the front door. And now finally some relaxation, under a strong sunlight in the depth of nature. Witnessing more culture and preparing for deeper exploration. Seeing the different ways of life and the history in other areas. It's incredibly exciting, especially to have the camera gear I do have, and the ways I can go about capturing all of this.

I haven't yet been able to export all of the images from the camera to my laptop. So these photographs are of my visit to Mtatsminda Park. The experiences of new things, and facing fears head-on. Not allowing that little voice in the back of my head to control my actions and limit my experiences, understanding when it's rational and when it's just irrational fears that can just be tackled with a more brute nature. I will get on things that seem scary. I will look down at the world from above even if it fills me with dread. And I'll continue to explore and see what I'm really capable of.
