I left a message for the author of Hobonickels... It's such a good idea I thought I would repost it here... It's about modifying the staking system a little bit... and reclaiming or recycling coins for lost and abandoned addresses wanted to run an idea by you too regarding staking and the hard cap of coins... What would you think about flagging old addresses as abandoned on the blockchain after x amount of time has passed where said address has completed zero transactions in or out if that address had a balance. Then after x amount of time that abandoned addresses' coins can be put back into the system in the form of staking rewards, instead of drawing coins from the total pile used for mining rewards. that way, the percentage of staking return could fluxuate...but still have a minimum, plus if any of the abandoned addresses ever magically returned, you would just do a negative count on the staking counter... Get what I'm saying...? Or you could just say screw you I suppose to the abandoned addresses, u lost your coins, but I don't think that is good... Maybe put a fee on an address once it gets flagged abandoned so that it slowly winds down to 0 as it's balance goes towards staking... Just a thought... Because I love staking, it's an awesome idea, but it's not perfect yet... cause you know tons of people lose their wallets/keys and there are tons of lost coins... always will be. You could even force the abandoned addresses to earn their coins back if ever reactivated after being flagged abandoned by letting them do some specialized rapid staking mode that unlocks their address...several ways to implement obviously... This would let the system reclaim them abandoned coins without having to do things like what was done to bottlecaps :) even though bottlecaps is a different case, I'm just saying...would have been one way to collect the coins that got mass generated in those 10 blocks...
