Small, but constant progress
We got a couple little bits of progress made this afternoon. Not a lot, but it was a little easy work that the kids helped a lot with.

My post this morning about the south project brought to my mind how easily that soil dries out, and how little it is replenished by the small oak tree there. So today's light work revolved around leaves and water in the south project.

We added leaves to the swales, and mulched the downhill sides with them as well. In absence of wood chips, these will do the same job, but they just won't last as long. While we added the leaves, we had the tote pouring into the swales. We input about a hundred gallons and ten bags of leaves.

The top berm wasn't mulched because it's not been reduced and planted yet. I plan on removing some of it's mass like we did with the other two berms, but that's not a job for today.

Our other little job was to pile up bags of leaves around the chook house. Insulation and storage. Melissa is getting tired of all the leaf bags under the carport. Can't say I blame her, so I'm looking for other solutions. The 20 bags we have in the shop have maxed out it's storage capacity, so other options are needed. Of course, some will be spread and used, like today, and I'm hoping to have a relatively gargantuan compost pile.

Tomorrow is trash day and, from scouting, we'll be able to replace the leaves we used today. An exciting prospect, as my carbonaceous banditry bone is itching a lot. If you'll recall, our initial goal was fifty bags. When we blew through that last week with a single-day haul of over fifty bags, I adjusted the target to 120 bags. I'm hoping now to surpass that as well. I'm hoping for a hundred and fifty bags.

How big of a compost pile would fifty bags of leaves make? We'll find out. That sounds like a serious fungal support system, and we want fungal soil.

Hope y'all had an easy, restful Sunday.

Stay relevant

Nate
