Android phones are being hacked simply by individuals looking at PNG images that are sent to them.

Critical vulnerabilities have been found affecting millions of devices running recent versions of Google's mobile operating system, ranging from Android 7.0 Nougat to its current Android 9.0 Pie.

Apparently these flaws have been patched by Google's Android Open Source Project (AOSP) in the February Android Security Updates Bulletin: https://source.android.com/security/bulletin/2019-02-01.html

Since it may be difficult to decipher if your phone has been updated to shield this attack...
And the engineers aren't releasing tech details reviewing the vulnerabilities....

One would have a hard time catching the remote attackers triggering the maliciously crafted Portable Network Graphics (.PNG) image files sent through a mobile message service or an email app.

Google sited the recent  Feb 7th release working on the issue.
