One of the most popular recent media craze is the game Fortnite. Fortnite is the latest iteration of popular eSports to take the world by storm. What are eSports? And what is the craze behind them? Are they a passing fad or an emerging sports? eSports are professional video gaming competitions that have exploded in popularity with the growth of online gaming streaming platforms like Twitch. 

Competitive video gamers play others around the world for prize pools that can go into the millions of dollars. Much like conventional sports, there are professional eSports teams, that compete with each other in professional competitions. eSports can be watched online or live. And there are outstanding eSports superstars who earn competitively large amounts of money and endorsements due to their popularity. The popularity of eSports has soared from humble Asian origins to the west. For instance, right now NBA teams have their own particular eSports extensions who compete. Some of the biggest names in American sports have come out strongly in favor of eSports including Dallas Mavericks owner, billionaire Mark Cuban and Boston Celtics’ Gordon Hayward. Live eSports can be held both in indoor arenas or even outdoor setups. It might be difficult to explain the concept of eSports, why would people pay to watch other people play video games? I guess this is a new paradigm that would be embraced in time. 

### Recent developments that are proof of eSports' newly found status include: 
✅eSports have also gained corporate interest with Amazon buying Twitch, the online leader of gaming broadcasts in 2014, and YouTube creating the niche YouTube Gaming for eSports enthusiasts.
✅ The total revenue that has been collected in esports has been steadily rising since $194 million in 2014 to $463 million in 2016. It is projected that the value of eSports will surpass the $1 billion mark in 2019. 
✅In April this year the organizing committee of the Paris 2024 Olympics were in serious talks with the International Olympic Committee, proposing the inclusion of eSports at the worldwide event as a demonstration. 
✅The 2022 Asian Games are more progressive having included competitive video gaming as one of the participating sports.

Cryptocurrency and gaming share an uncanny similarity. The success of a gaming project much like a cryptocurrency project is influenced heavily by the community rallying behind it.
