Serene Garden
The Serene Garden is another attraction of the Gardens by the Bay. It has an area of over 21,5000 square ft. with a tropical Zen theme “inspired by the minimalist concept of Japanese zen gardens”.

I have passed by the garden once, or twice without strolling through it. So, on my recent visit to the Gardens by the Bay, I thought I would have a closer look at it. I am glad I it. I think it is safe to say, the garden is not the normal garden one expects. I find it unique and interesting.

In the gardens are Podocarpus and Juniper bonsai trees, Bismarckias surrounding a water feature, a beautiful section of bamboo plants, shady tropical trees, naturally coloured rocks from Japan and the Singapore granite quarry, a rivulet, and a pavilion …. among other things.

The garden certainly lives up to its name of being a ‘Serene’ garden. It is quiet and peaceful, very serene indeed, providing visitors solitude from the hustle and bustle of city life, a stone throw away.

Here are some pictures from my visit.

Podocarpus and Juniper bonsai trees. You can see the business district in the background.

Bismarckia palms surrounding a water feature. It has an air of mysticism about it – to me anyway.

Bamboos. I like the sight of bamboos.

The statue of the face of The Buddha in a field of – either dwarf bamboos, or young bamboos. Maybe a different variety of bamboos.

A rivulet. The sound of water is, I guess, a common feature of a Zen garden.

Benches for the tired visitor. Or, for those who desire to sit for a moment to enjoy the serenity of the place.
