Losing a Friend, Finding Myself

<div class="text-justify">
They say no man is an island and that is very true. God said that we were created and pairs and this shows that we need others in this life. You can’t up and say you’re just going to be by yourself forever because you choose to. You actually can, but you hardly see people doing that because as humans, we need each other.

That’s why we were all born in families, we grew up to have friends, we meet our better halves and marry, have our own kids and more. All this teaches us that the people in our lives are there for a reason. Some people are just there to pass time, others are in for the long run while others are there to teach you lessons. In all my years of existence, I’ve met so many people some of which I don’t know their whereabouts today. This tells me that life keeps moving regardless and the same way people come, people go.

I’m not one to have many friends because that’s just my nature. I like to keep my circle small and that few friends I have mean a lot to me and I try my best to do whatever I can to keep our relationship fruitful. However, not everyone has the same mindset as me. Apparently, someone I considered to be a friend I would have for very turned out to be the opposite. This is someone I literally spent all the good and bad years of my life with. This person was there to support me through thick and thin and I thought to myself, what more could I be looking for in a friend.

I’m not here to paint this person as a bad friend because people do change. Over the night, my friend turned into someone I didn’t know. No effort whatsoever to keep our friendship going, disrespect to the highest degree, attitude and what have you. I didn’t know what was going on because as far as I knew, I didn’t do anything to offend them. But as I said, people do change depending on the situation. I tried my best to keep the relationship afloat but my dear friend kept drowning us all so eventually, I decided to save myself, out of respect.

I haven’t cut off times with this person, but we also aren’t friends anymore. We are more like acquaintances now and I’m totally okay with that because we are not enemies. At the end of the day, I believe that the real ones will always stay no matter how much change the undergo. Because I equally have changed a lot but still decided to hold on. But hey, no more saving ships that want to drown.
