More orchid experiments
I was given an unrooted broken-off stem of some or other orchid a couple of months ago and although it's easy to grow similar pieces if they have formed roots, I was at a loss what to do with this one. Because orchids are fairly succulent, I thought that putting it in one of the other orchid pots might be sufficient because it was summer and fairly humid.

It didn't die but it didn't grow either. I pretty much wrote it off and tossed it into the glass I had the other broken off stem in, expecting that the bottom segment would rot. It didn't and after a week or two, I saw tiny root tips forming, just above the waterline. The segment below, which was submerged, didn't rot and eventually formed a root of its own. Once these get a little larger, I'll try putting it into a bark mixture.

As for the Phalaenopsis keiki, I think I see roots forming and getting ready to push out of the lower segment. It's also making a second leaf.
