BRIDGE.  A symbol of connection, the connection of two points of sacred space, primarily earth and sky (in this case, the bridge acts as a variant of the world tree).  In the Scandinavian tradition, for example, the rainbow bridge Birpest is known, along which the gods descend into the world of people and along which the fallen warriors rise to the world of the gods on the horses of Valkyries.
