Today I decided to remove a couple of projects from my priority list. It was quite difficult and I found myself struggling with my decision ( coupled with the fact that I did not get much sleep last night made things even worse). It took this long to make this discussion and I probably would never have made it if I wasn't prompted in a way. First, I realized that for some of these projects I had nothing to lose or gain. For the most part, these have been projects of passion, but unfortunately, things have gone sideways. I do not have much motivation to continue. For the projects I have a financial interest in, I have cut my losses and moved on. These projects (both online and offline) aren’t bad per se, however, for a project to achieve its goal, there must be a consensus between parties involved. Effort and resources put into the project might vary, but there must be some level of consensus on what the actual goal is and how to achieve it. Without that nothing tangible can be achieved. Ideas are great but the willpower to achieve is even greater. #### WHY DO PROJECTS FAIL? ######
POOR COMMUNICATION
Proper communication is pivotal to the growth and sustainability of any project. It is always a herculean task communicating your ideas in a way that meets the standards of effective communication: 1. Clarity 2. Correctness 3. Conciseness 4. Courtesy 5. Concreteness 6. Consideration 7. Completeness. It is quite easy to lose meaning in a plethora of words or inaction. Most projects die because of poor communication. These projects are unable to communicate the right words at the right time and to the right people. This often creates a gap that leads to stagnation and the eventual death of the project. ######
LACK OF EXPERIENCE
If you have been in the crypto sphere (and in life generally) long enough, you can attest to the fact that many good, honest, and creative ideas lack substance. This can be a result of poor funding and a lack of competent manpower, which ironically always comes as an afterthought. Mr. A has a great idea he thinks will change the world, and automatically thinks that his idea is currency. He neither has the agency or influence to pursue his goal; there are no roadmap or laid down plans/steps to follow in other to achieve his goal. Mr. A has no experience in this field. He doesn’t consider gaining some traction before leaping into something big. Mr.A is most likely to fail. Development is difficult to say the least. Often than not most startups never gain traction. Your dream and passion are not enough to sustain your project, thus, your goals and objectives need to be clear. This is because oftentimes your dreams and reality don’t match. Having a sense of direction allows you to make changes when needed. Without that you either move sheepishly into difficult situations or quit. ######
COMMUNITY
A community covers your sphere of influence–colleagues, subordinates, market, stakeholders, etc. These are the environmental situations that dictate the traction your projects get and require constant evaluation. As a project manager, you need to effectively communicate your goal with your community and get feedback. This will enable you create projects and services that suits their needs. Always make sure you are on the same page with your community. As I said earlier, consensus is important. Nothing tangible can happen when people do not agree. This is why effective communication is important. By communicating your goals and receiving feedback you can align your goals to that of your community, or at least know when to exit. These are just basic reasons why projects fail but many do not seem to notice, understandable. Most people are emotional tied to their projects and often fail to be realistic and make difficult decisions when needed. In conclusion, I believe a project manager or facilitator must be able to effectively communicate his dreams which can be enough to engender the confidence of his community. Through positively feedback loop between the different lines of communicate to help define the product or project. Also experience can be gained over time. It is important to start small and move upwards. Trust is a very delicate thing and many sensible people are not willing to trust blindly and rightly so. We all need to prove our worth one way or another.
