Well, I was at a very nice restaurant recently, sitting at the counter across from a personal chef...

The grill was hot, and just four ingredients were up on the counter: an uncooked steak, oil, salt and pepper.

As the chef poured some of the oil on the grill, he explained to me where it came from, and why it was the perfect flavor match for the steak.

He then did the same for the steak, and even the salt and pepper.

The steak was incredible, and as I ate it I finally understood that great ingredients make great chefs.

I had always assumed that some magic cutting technique or other other kind of preparation made great meals because most of the restaurant food I've eaten was made back in the kitchen...

But seeing the steak prepared in front of me - exactly as I'd cook a one in a pan at home - I saw that there was no mysterious cooking method.

This chef had simply selected the best ingredients.

Think for a moment and you'll discover this is true for successful people in any field...

They begin with the best inputs, so their output is naturally excellent.

And it's the same thing with language learning!

Most non-native English learners have trouble speaking because of the poor "input" they get from traditional classes and lessons:

The dialogues are fake and unnatural...

The formal vocabulary is rarely used in real conversations...

Lessons teach you to translate and memorize, rather than speak automatically.

With low-quality "ingredients" like these, is it any surprise that most learners can't communicate?

All of this means it's not your fault if you're not yet speaking as well as you'd like...
