Sounds weird, right? Well, Also, fair warning, this post is not about technically great photos, but about Shanghai Jazz. #### What exactly is Shanghai Jazz? I'm about to tell and show you. A few years back our friends invited us to dinner at a local restaurant. They didn't say where or which restaurant and I distinctly remember how I was a bit irritated when they rushed us *'we got to go, we got to go, otherwise we'll lose our table and they'll charge our card'.* What?! *Come on, guys, seriously? We're in the middle (o.k. north) of New Jersey, not in New York City! What's the big deal?* As I said, at that point, they hadn't even told us the name of the restaurant. If they had, we might have had objections, because, well - 'jazz' is really not our kind of music, so the name would have made us very suspicious. Be it as it may, we got going and turns out this place is only a 10 - 15 minutes drive from us, situated on the main street of a really quaint small town, which we strolled through before. It is a fairly small place, the tables are really close together, and off to the right, out of this photo frame, there is a bar. No windows, and the lighting is very dim (hence the crappy photos). </br> As you surely have figured out by now, the main part of the evening and **Shanghai Jazz** is the fact that every night they have different jazz musicians playing live while the audience is being served delicious Asian food. A really awesome variety of appetizers, mains, desserts, and all accompanied by wine, beer, cocktails of your choice, and - live jazz music. In case you wondered, having a conversation while the music plays is impossible😇.  Not only did we love the food, but also the music. There is something to be said for being up close personal to the musicians - as you can see in the following shots. When one of our friends, a jazz connoisseur, visited from Germany, he got really excited when we showed him Shanghai Jazz's schedule and this artist on it. Apparently the guy with the mic is a well-known jazz musician, saxophonist and singer. *To those in the know, please forgive my ignorance, dumb me didn't write down his name.* Our friend even got an autographed CD after the show. Made my friend very happy! 😚    #### Fast forward 8 or 9 years. The owner of Shanghai Jazz changed in 2017, but food and music is still as good as under the original owners. Since that one night in 2011 or 2012, we have been too many times to count. During the height of the pandemic Shanghai Jazz music events stopped, but their kitchen was open for take-out and eventually also for outdoor dining. Behind their building is a small parking lot, very sloped. *Check out the b&w pic below, basically the table stands on a sloped ground, so the liquid in my (extremely yummie Manhattan) is even.* Hubby (@cutty-snark) and I haven't been going out in 2020 at all, but here and there we have been taking out food from local restaurants. But when hubby's birthday came around in June, we made it our own special event. We even got a limo for the short trip to and from [Shanghai Jazz](https://www.shanghaijazz.com/), so we didn't have to drive and could enjoy some cocktails. Hubby got a gin based one at first, but once he tasted my Manhattan, he quickly ordered that instead.
