0.000 HBDMy Take On The Soulbound Reward Cards
<div class="text-justify">Hello everyone! It looks like Reward Cards will be Soulbound, starting with the next batch of them. I'll talk about what I like and don't like about this.</div> <div class="text-justify">The first thing I don't like about this is that they never put it into a vote. They allowed things like the distribution of rewards to go into a vote, knowing full well that the whales would easily pass them. They don't put this one to a vote because they fear that it won't pass. I don't like that.</div> <div class="text-justify">Another thing is that we're no longer dealing with NFTs. The fact that I am not allowed to sell them, takes away from the whole NFT premise.</div> <div class="text-justify">However, despite these 2 flaws, it doesn't mean it's a bad decision. We just need to be really careful about how it's implemented. Bot farms have led us into this. I still believe we need to stop these half-measures and just straight-up make bot farms impossible to operate by including an anti-bot captcha every X battles. This would be a safer and better solution, that wouldn't hurt any real player.</div> <div class="text-justify">If this is happening, it needs to be done right. We can't just have some cards drop for a few months and have them disappear. Any player who joins the game later or even players that couldn't get enough copies, would forever be locked out of these cards. I have a few ideas that I will list. Some might be compatible with others, some might not.</div> # Idea 1 <div class="text-justify">Just like any other Reward Cards, we would know exactly how many would be printed. When all cards of that batch were printed, you could now sell them. This puts a stop in the bot farms earnings, making them much less desirable. Anyone joining the game later or not able to get enough cards, would be able to buy the rest, eventually.</div> # Idea 2 <div class="text-justify">Even if you can't sell them, you can rent them. This is not perfect and it's probably the worst option. It might be difficult to fully leveled up cards with many accounts having a few extra copies. It's still better than nothing. At least, it's a chance to play with the card.</div> # Idea 3 <div class="text-justify">These cards will forever be available to be won. That way, no one is missing out. this still poses a few problems. Many players would have enough copies, after some time. It would be terrible to keep getting those same cards. Adding new cards to the pool wouldn't solve the problem and new cards would be too diluted in the pool, after enough time. New players joining in a few years, would take too long to get enough copies of any of these cards.</div> # Idea 3.1 <div class="text-justify">These cards could be burned for an untradable currency that could only be used to buy these cards. Hearthstone does this with Dust. You can burn cards for X Dust and cards cost more Dust to buy. Each rarity would have a price and the buy/sell difference would be, at least, double. This way, no card could ever be impossible to get and there wouldn't be problems with diluting cards. New players could focus on leveling up the cards they wanted the most. The only downside is that the biggest players could probably get the newest cards very fast. Not that it is any different, right now.</div> # Idea 3.2 <div class="text-justify">We could make players who have a maxed card not able to get that card anymore. It helps but it doesn't solve the problem of having new players get so many different cards and taking too long to level up any of them.</div> # Idea 3.3 <div class="text-justify">This one might sound crazy but we could have cards automatically burn for DEC, when they leave the Modern format. That way, we keep getting new cards, they don't dilute the pool, people get to play with them for at least 2 years, and no one is playing against cards they can't ever play. I don't think they should be burned for nothing, that would leave people unhappy. It might create a problem with a huge influx of DEC. At worst, if burning all these cards for DEC is a problem, they could just be removed from ranked play, but there would be certain tournaments where you could play them. Just something to give utility to these legacy cards but not enough that new players are missing out.</div> <div class="text-justify">These are my ideas. I like idea 1 and 3.1 the most, although, 3.3 is not bad. 3.2 and 2 are better than nothing but they don't solve most problems. There are some really powerful Reward cards like Axemaster, Djinn Oshannus, Almo Cambio, Ruler of the Seas, and others. These cards have a big impact on the game and it would be bad if some players were left never being able to get these cards, while playing against people with them.</div> https://d36mxiodymuqjm.cloudfront.net/cards_by_level/reward/Ruler%20of%20the%20Seas_lv4.png https://d36mxiodymuqjm.cloudfront.net/cards_by_level/reward/Almo%20Cambio_lv4.png https://d36mxiodymuqjm.cloudfront.net/cards_by_level/reward/Djinn%20Oshannus_lv4.png https://d36mxiodymuqjm.cloudfront.net/cards_by_level/reward/Axemaster_lv6.png <div class="text-justify">What do you think about this topic?
