*There aren’t too many places left on Earth where one can hide completely undetected, but that’s what a “Supercolony” of penguins has been doing on a remote string of islands off Antarctica.Satellite images and a drone discovered about 1.5 million Adélie penguins living in the Danger Islands Near Antarctica, one of two species whose habitats require ice. This bought immense joy to the scientists and people from all corners of the world and now lets try to find out more facts about these little penguin's from the penguin itself :-D* _04.jpg) "Hi friends , how are you? Recently you found lakhs of us in pictures taken by the drones and felt very happy , especially the scientists. Now that love you people have towards us made us also blessed and hence I came forward to have a chat and share some facts about us so that you all will get to know us more * Firstly , for some of you who might be wondering what's all this fuss about ,we are one among the many species of penguins and are called 'ADELIE PENGUINS' living in the Danger Islands, a chain of remote, rocky islands off the Antarctic Peninsula’s northern tip. * Increase in temperatures , melting of polar ice caps(especially between 2010 and 2017) and many other factors the environment led to the decline in the numbers of our species. To cut it short , Untill recently it is thought that the number of Adelie Penguins has been steadily declining and that they are on the verge of extinction. But two days back it all changed when drones took pictures of us(1.5 million penguins) and this made the scientists breathe tension free again. * We are little smaller than other species, being 46 to 71 cm (18 to 28 in) in height and 3.6 to 6.0 kg (7.9 to 13.2 lb) in weight. We have the white ring surrounding the eye and the feathers at the base of the bill and our long feathers hide most of the red bill and our tail is a little longer than other penguins' tails. Appearance looks somewhat like a tuxedo right ? ;-) * We eat about 2 kgs of food daily. And our diet includes Antarctic, Ice krills , Squids and many other small fish. Just like any other animal , We also have enemies. Leopard seals and killer whales being the primemost. To bring food for our baby penguins sometimes we travel up to 120 kms :-D & We usually swim at around 5 miles per hour (8.0 km/h) Source - https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ad%C3%A9lie_penguin http://earthsky.org/earth/scientists-discover-colony-adelie-penguins-danger-islands
