# Paul Hardaker http://www.paulhardakerchallenges.co.uk/ I've been friends with Paul since we were kids at school and we've been on a fair few adventures of our own together. We've sailed through dead calm & storm force seas, encountered pods of Bottlenose Dolphins & Seals joining us along the way; see below ( & remind me to post "The Dolphin Film"). *Captain keeps an eye out in rough weather crossing the shipping lanes* We've watched flocks of magnificent Sea Birds consume bait balls right before our eyes and risen to the challenge of cooking breakfast in 20 foot swells off the North Wales Coast.. just occasionally running aground in shallow water and surviving to tell the tale. *2 Mammals & 2 Birds in calm water as we leave the Mersey Estuary into Liverpool Bay* Paul's an Engineer by trade but is really an adventurer at heart. I've helped him out along the way over the last 10 years in any way I can by crewing on the Good ship Zuma, acting as ship's naturalist, photographer & cook, giving moral support to his quests, designing & looking after various challenge websites including the one above & teaching him how to edit travelogue videos, how to blog his journeys and designing graphics for stickers and posters for his various journeys. *ship's naturalist, cook and photographer yours truly (Outerground on shift nap)* *Sailing aboard the Good Ship Zuma* #### Solo Sailor, Sea Kayaker & Motorcyclist Solo Sailing around the UK single handed in his 27ft yacht was a big challenge for Paul and one which garnered a lot of attention. Kayaking the Leeds to Liverpool Canal was another slightly less dangerous but no less strenuous challenge of 204km with 91 locks to haul out and carry the Kayak through. Motorcycling across Spain from Coast to Coast through deserts and mountains was a physically tough challenge. Hot, uncomfortable, rocky and precarious mountain roads and desert camping expanded Paul's endurance experience, making the transition from water based adventures onto land. *from Santander to the Bay of Roses - crossing the desert* *Kayak training for the Leeds - Liverpool Canal Challenge* #### Arctic Circle Ambitiously, he attempted to ride his Motorbike from Liverpool to Nordkapp in the Arctic Circle last year and reached the destination in 5 days flat. Here's the 30cm pannier sticker I designed for the journey. One on each side of his pannier bags. It was a 9,500km round trip and one with apparently some stunning views. #### Crohns & Colitis UK He is a Crohn's sufferer and raises money for Crohns & Colitis UK on all of his adventurer through sponsorship. He wants to show the world that having a chronic health condition doesn't mean you can't lead a full life and he inspires others to reach their potential, whatever their challenges. His justgiving.com page https://www.justgiving.com/fundraising/Paul-Hardaker *the hazardous shipping lanes are always tricky navigating in a 27ft yacht* #### Olympic Torch Bearer Paul was proudly selected as an Olympic Torchbearer for the 2012 Olympic Games in London, in recognition for his outstanding achievements as an adventurer, a fundraiser and an inspirational figure. image courtesy of champnews
