She buried it to the very north of her yard, as far from the fireplace as she could. She didn't want anything to happen to it, so she buried it deep, as deep as she could dig. Which turned out to be about six inches. They didn't call her neck of the woods Rock Land for nothing. So six inches it would have to be.

She covered the little box with dirt, then with a pile of stones. A stone cairn, an altar. She sat there and sobbed for a few seconds.

A tiny humanoid peeped around the top stone of her cairn and said. “Miss, you've put this stone on my foot. Would you please move it?"

She jumped and screamed. “What are you doing there?” It was stupid, she knew, but that's what came out of her mouth.

He looked at her and smirked "I'm your worst enemy, sitting here about to dig up what you have buried, because you cannot forget it, and if you try, it will just haunt you. The thing to do is to embrace it! Dig it back up. "

She really didn't want to. She had thought as she set the last stone, the stone that must be on the creature's foot, that she would finally be able to move on and face up to the fact that she had done the deed, regretted the deed, and had forgiven herself for doing it.

But alas, the tiny humanoid was standing in her way.

*I used the most dangerous writing app for this one, and here's the proof:*
