Leaving with Uncle Bola left me with unforgettable memories, especially when Miss Kemi entered his life.


Uncle Bola is a bachelor from whom I learn a few things when it comes to relationships and dating games.

Meanwhile, Miss Kemi, an alumna of my school, paid a surprise visit, and with the interaction I heard with her, I confirmed that she is my uncle's date.

I was so happy because I knew a little about Miss Kemi, who rarely came out of her class during the school days.


After she left Uncle Bola’s apartment, I saw him come to my room smiling and asking if it was a good pick. 

I gave my uncle a full account of what I could remember of her and how decent and innocent she was during the school days.

I commented approvingly of her by saying, ‘Uncle Bola, na she you go marry ooo’, which means you must marry her ooo.

"Àlàa ni ó fi oko òòlẹ̀ hàn," a native proverb which means out of two farmers, the boundary will demarcate the lazy farmer from the hardworking farmer, was blurted out of Uncle Bola's lips.

 ‘You know I don't womanize and play games, everything depends on your Miss Kemi, Uncle Bola concluded firmly.


I trust her, I said, putting my hand on my chest in a pledging gesture.

 Uncle Bola smirked, telling me I am still a kid.


As time goes by, his relationship with Miss Kemi continues and becomes more serious. 

As Miss Kemi took up the role of a fiancée, cooking her delicious meal most times she is around while I do other house chores.

I used to tease her whenever she came around about her motive towards Uncle Bola, to which she always gives me assurance that it is my uncle or nobody else.

All that I know about her was that she was a well-to-do lady, having her modern salon intact.



 A few months later, Uncle Bola came with someone who looked familiar. 

Looking at him closely, this is Big Brother Bayonle, an alumnus who was in Miss Kemi’s class in the same year. I reckoned.

Knowing him during the school days as a womanizer, but I believe that change is constant, and everyone deserves one.

But I noticed that my Uncle's behavior changed all of a sudden towards Miss Kemi due to Uncle Bayonle's influence.

 At this time, Miss Kemi's kindness towards me was superb as she would bring presents for me whenever she came around.

The conflict of their relationship erupted on a Saturday morning like that, and I was disappointed by Uncle Bola, who claims Miss Kemi will not come in and stands by his words.

I begged him, but to no avail, and the only reply he gave me was that you are still a kid.

Miss Kemi left without saying a word, and that was the beginning of their departure.

The second incident, Uncle Bola locked her out with me, as I was against his sudden cruelty towards her, and  I was with her outside while Uncle Bola hissed loudly, left, and while he left, he just said, ‘I will be back’ and that is all.

 I asked Miss Kemi what the problem was, but she wouldn't tell me. The reply, she says, is that you won't understand.

Now, very confusing, Uncle Bola will say I am a kid, and she says I won't understand.


So I sat him down when he was calm and asked why he had changed to her.


Kemi cheats and keeps secrets, he said firmly, and continued. Bayonle told me that she had a kid early. I couldn't believe what he said. Uncle Bola lamented, but it was true.

I never knew she had a baby too, " I replied in surprise.

Then my uncle continued, I have been to her house thrice these past few months, and found out that her house was locked, only to call her, and she told me she was at home, which she never knew that I was there.

I don't play games and don't want to be played either, he stated.



Those were the times she used to spoil you with gifts, he said, raising one of his eyebrows to look at me.


But sir, that doesn't mean she is cheating, and having a baby is not a sin. Keeping it from you was the sin; I tried to convince Uncle Bola, who frowned at me, saying When he confronts her, why did she deny and gaslight him?


I tried contacting Miss Kemi, but her number wasn't reachable, so I declined, as she went ghosted.


A few weeks later, turn months, no Miss Kemi nor Uncle Bayonle, and life continues.


I was indoors sleeping when Uncle Bola came in a disturbed manner one evening and called for me.

Aburo, I heard, which means younger brother, and I stood up, as waking me up in that manner is not a thing he does, so it triggers a sense of concern.

He said, ‘Oju mi ri emo loni,’ which means my eyes saw wonders today.

You know it has been a while since Bayonle has come around, and I have been calling him, but he claims he is always busy. Uncle Bola took a cup of chilled water and continued.


Coming from work today, I decided to branch Bayonle's house, who told me he is not at home after getting to his house already.

But because I was pressed, I decided to use his toilet, having a spare key, and as I entered, I saw Bayonle and Kemi kissing.





What!, I said as I couldn't really get what he was saying, so I asked again, which Kemi and which Bayonle.

And he replied with Your Kemi and my Bayonle.

How come, I asked, confused now.


Uncle Bola continues, at first, the toilet disappeared, and I just kept repeating Bayonle, Kemi, in amusement.

Then I interrupted Uncle Bola and asked, as matters are getting complicated, what they said, as I wouldn't just leave like that if it were me. 


 And uncle Bola continues, I did 
not leave but wish I had left, after entering Bayonle’s sitting room and saw the unbelievable, I insisted I must know the truth about the affairs, Uncle Bola hinted.

Ha ha ha!! I said, What is the truth you acquire as I was anxious.

Did you believe that Kemi's early child is for Bayonle?


As how I said crippled to the hips and not believing my ears so I asked in a trembling voice, so how come Uncle Bayonle never took responsibility of the child.

 They lost contact when Bayonle traveled to the East with his father, Uncle Bola replied.

So what's the drama and games, all about, I asked, when they should have just said the truth, I stated.

I don't know, Uncle Bola answered.


So what next, I asked anxiously?



We are leaving the games for the players and wish them all the best. He answered, and we both laughed, but deep down, the statement was kept in my quote portfolio, and I will never forget it.
