Gridcoin - Weekly project update (wk 25)

https://steemitimages.com/DQmYRM9s1o4PLVbKaffoZDaH3mHJSTY9QvUrZLfLoK6iZnA/image.png
Here is the weekly Gridcoin project earnings update where I look at the project chart developments and highlight an interesting aspect. Today I will be looking at the team RAC and GRC earning fluctuations for LHC@Home.

Lately LHC@home had a significant decline in team RAC while the GRC earnings per 1k system RAC increased. When you analyse the two charts below, you will notice that there is a recurring up-and-down movement unlike any of the other whitelisted projects.

(Data source: BOINCStats)

LHC@Home supports 5 sub-projects: LHCb (Beauty), CMS (Compact Muon Solenoid), ATLAS (A Toroidal LHC ApparatuS), Test4Theory and Sixtrack. The first 4 require Virtualbox to execute work-units while the last doesn’t. Many LHC@Home crunchers don’t have Virtualbox installed on their systems and as such will only receive Sixtrack work-units.

Work-units are generated in batches for Sixtrack and during periods of work, the team RAC increases and the GRC earnings decline noticeably. When the work-units are completed, the RAC level gradually decreases to a base-level, set by the first 4 sub-projects. In the charts below the red arrows represent the periods when Sixtrack work is available and the green ones when not, where you can clearly notice the fluctuations.

Based on past experience, LHC@Home is one of the best earning projects in periods without Sixtrack work so if you have Virtualbox installed on your system, this could be an interesting project to crunch at the moment.

Definitions

Recent Average RAC = The total amount of RAC produced by all systems within the Gridcoin network.

Team RAC vs Overall RAC % = The proportion of RAC output team Gridcoin has produced as part of the overall RAC for the project.

GRC per 1k system RAC = The amount of GRC you will receive for a system per 1000 RAC points.
Example: You have a system which is running Rosetta@home with a RAC value of 3500. According to the chart on 30-Oct, you should gain 3.5 x 0.42 GRC = 1.47 GRC per day for this system.

USD per 1k system RAC = The amount of USD you will receive for a system per 1000 RAC points.
Example: You have a system which is running NFS@Home with a RAC of 4700. According to the chart on 30-Oct, you should gain 4.7 x $0.29= $1.36 per day for this system.
