A Conversation brings a Different Perspective
I caught up with @firepower this morning. I was sorry to hear that he was in an accident in February that is potentially life-changing for him. Our conversation and his post [How I faced my demons and fought back!](https://steemit.com/life/@firepower/how-i-faced-my-demons-and-fought-back) unexpectedly gave me a new perspective on the last year of my life and moving forward.

@firepower - Keep your chin up and stay optimistic. I'm rooting for a full recovery and thanks for the mental pick me up!

Last June I was admitted to the hospital with a blood clot in my leg and I had bilateral pulmonary emboli. After I was released the first order of business was to determine if there was a specific medical condition that caused the clots. I had the total hysterectomy in October to remove benign tumors that were compressing the arteries and veins.

I've been pretty hard on myself when it comes to recovering and getting back to the business of living. The first few days after I was released from the hospital I was ready to get back to being "me" and I thought that I could jump right back in as long as I didn't lift more than the prescribed 5 lbs. I also thought this would give me time to adjust to how having post-thrombotic syndrome would affect my life. That optimistic view lasted as long as the pain killers did, which was about 3 weeks.

In a couple of weeks, it will be a year since this all started. I find that I have a lot to be proud of even if I'm not making progress as fast as I would like. I'm not twenty anymore and I need to cut myself some slack. If it takes me 6 months to do what it would normally have taken me a week or two, I need to accept it and be happy with where I am in my recovery. Even if this is the best I will be.

Cigarettes today: Zero
Progress: Another 8 feet! (See Photos)

I wish I had taken a *before* picture. This is the side of the house that I will be working on next. Just imagine this across the entire front house and the steps covered in poison ivy!

_**April 25th**_ - I started this around the middle of March.

_**May 10th**_ - Slowly but surely. There were a few Yew bushes that made the casualty list. Maybe the one on the far right will grow back one day.

_**June 8th**_ - Today I put down another 8 feet of edging and mulch!

Zoee waiting for the mail man to deliver her daily biscuit. She enjoys a supervisory position and frequently waits for her friends to drop by. It's sad to realize she sees more of her friends than I do mine on a daily basis.

Lesson learned: Do not stack mulch near an ant hill!
