Why did I join Steemit?
The world has changed at an ever-increasing rate, especially since the advent of the Internet in the early 1990s. The ability to share information and data at a distance, in a freer way, has contributed to a new transformation in our global culture . In this context, the power of each individual to interfere in the global culture, has been increasing as well. And with this, there are more opportunities for large-scale social transformations, both for good and for bad.
My name is Paulo Murilo, and I am a curious, enthusiastic and independent researcher of anomalous subjects and social issues that can provoke a profound positive change in society, especially in basic social structures. I have often thought about having a blog, but it seems I have never been sufficiently inspired to write my own texts. Well, until now. Let's see what led me to write:

Along with the internet, revolutionary ways of sharing electronic data have appeared. Who does not remember the beginning of the services of 'torrents'? In the early 2000s, a software called Napster began to revolutionize the way people listened to and accessed music, especially MP3. Although large industries apparently managed to get hold of Napster, the music industry was never the same. And the protocol that Napster used was widespread for all other areas of electronic files, for software like Emule, Ares, and perhaps the most used, recent and famous: uTorrent.

The way the torrent-sharing and storage system works is by itself an unprecedented breakthrough in the way people in the network access electronic files: files are scattered over the network on the computers that access it, and when a new computer requests the file, it is sent from the countless copies found on this network. There is no central place that stores these files. To this we can call file storage decentralization.

Well, it turns out that sometime in 2009-2010, someone came up with the idea of using this protocol of torrents, also called P2P (peer to peer), to create virtual coins. Today's famous Bitcoin was born. At first, it seems that the goal was only to provide a digital medium to aggregate financial values to it, and to create a P2P-based currency of exchange. There was an immense worksheet, shared by all the computers connected to the network, which can be accessed by all of them, and modified, with the necessary confirmations: to this we call today Blockchain. Blockchain is the system behind Bitcoin and all other current criptocurrencies.

So these transformations ended up inspiring me to write my texts, because I could, and still can, visualize a very interesting and inspiring path (at least for me) with all these advances. The possibility of using a decentralized system as a financial asset, which does not depend on conditioned institutions such as governments, banks and / or large corporations, inspires me with a hope of transcending the current financial / monetary system to another form of economy, more free, shared, autonomous and much more horizontal, making the current hierarchy of the financial system obsolete.

Then we arrived at Steemit. Steemit is nothing more than a new social network, where you can post your content, such as texts, to other members to view, vote, share, and so on. With the difference that in this network, you can accumulate units of Steem, that is the criptocurrency of this network. You can also help those texts that you consider important, because by voting and sharing them, you will also be significantly helping that author to receive Steems.

So, with the appearance of this platform, I decided that this would be the ideal medium where to write my texts. Medium such that it reflects the great majority of the principles, values, and ways of social functioning in which I believe and defend. Of course this does not mean that I defend everything that is on the Steemit network, but rather that I believe a lot in this form of publishing and sharing content, in a social network that really empowers the user, and that does not keep using the user data and of their friends in ad distribution networks, like FB does. Well, this is just my first text in Steemit, and as it is, I intend to write much more, and certainly to deepen much more, both the subjects already discussed here and many others, which I consider very important for the positive social advance of our society and civilization.

Gratitude to those who have read this text, and to all enthusiasts of these same ideals!
