Zcash (ZEC) is currently the most profitable to mine. With an R9 280X you can expect a hashrate of approx 280 h/s which will return about $1 per day per card. elctric use = 190w per card plus your system wattage.
RX480 cards are getting similar returns, RX470's slightly less. with an electric use of about 160w plus system wattage.

Ive tried 3 different mining programs and currently i found Claymore's to be the best for R9 280X. Optiminer kept crashing and genoil would only run on lery low intensity so the hashrate was poor. This may be different for your cards.
claymores crashed with my GPU when using intensity 6,5, 4 was ok bt 3 gives me the same hashrate as 4  so why bother with the higher setting.

Claymore takes a 2% cut of your minings, this can be turned off but your hashrate will be less.
TBF the return from claymore's is better than the return from the other programs even with the 2% cut so i'm happy to give claymore something for his program that works and gets me a better return.
