Earthworms possess specific digestive (alimentary) track which helps in the breaking down of large food molecules. Digestion is the breaking down of large molecules of food into simple and absorbable form for use in the cells by the animals. .jpeg)[image source](https://encrypted-tbn0.gstatic.com/images?q=tbn:ANd9GcTqLHCKpmBTQCTyr8qs7QPuVX6Vz6OUu5zwGZnsxpjY38IP_a2A) Earthworms possess specific digestive (alimentary) track which helps in the breaking down of large food molecules. ***Digestion is the breaking down of large molecules of food into simple and absorbable form for use in the cells by the animals***. The alimentary track of the earthworm is a tube with two openings: the **mouth** through which food enters and moves out through the **anus**. The digestive organs of the earthworm include: ★The mouth where food is ingested. ★The pharynx secretes mucus to lubricate food particles. ★ The esophagus which transfer the ingested food to the crop. The crop is where the food is temporarily stored. ★ The gizzard is where food is grinded against small stones to break it up. ★ Intestine is where digestion and absorption of food takes place. [image source](Google) The earthworm feeds mainly on dry vegetable matter found in soil. The digested food then diffuse through the intestinal wall of the body into the blood and finally to the various parts of the body. The undigested food materials are then removed through the **Caecum** , **Rectum**, and finally to the anus where it is passed out of the body. .jpeg)[image](pixabay) The tapeworm is found in the intestine of some mammals as **endoparasites** . On the contrary, it has no alimentary canal as it feeds on digested food of the host by simple diffusion. It feeds and lives in the body of living organisms and causes reduction in the growth of the host. Thanks for passing through this blog. I am @pearlkel
